The children in Ladybird Class have been buzzing with excitement as they dive into preparations for our upcoming class assembly. They're eager to showcase their learning to you, and we can't wait for you to see their hard work and enthusiasm on display! In mathematics, we've embarked on an exciting journey exploring numbers above 10. The children have been actively engaged in learning how to identify and write these numbers, as well as understanding their composition. Through hands-on activities and interactive lessons, they're developing a strong foundation in numerical concepts. Our Talk4Write sessions have been filled with creativity as we've been innovating the beloved story "Farmer Duck". The children have been flexing their imaginations by changing the characters to different ones, adding their unique twists to the narrative. It's been wonderful to see their storytelling skills blossom! In Knowledge and Understanding of the World, our green thumbs...

Fox Class

Image
This week we have been working incredibly hard with our writing! After planning our own version of 'The King who banned the dark,' we wrote up each part of the story. It has been so great to see the foxes' writing stamina and we are looking forward to their hot write next week. In science we have been sorting items into whether or not they are light sources, which has led to a range of discussions about how we categorise them.

Otter Class HT4 - W4

Image
This week in Otter class, we have been extremely busy planning and writing stories, based upon the narrative tale: The King who was Afraid of the Dark. We changed our character and the dilemma from the the main story. We then used our plan to write a story with a beginning, middle and ending. After finishing these stories as our practise run, we then moved onto planning our very own stories, based upon a character of our choice who is afraid of the light. We then planned the setting, dilemma and resolution and are ready to write up our new stories next week. In Maths, we learnt about volume and capacity, as well as understanding grams and kilograms, when thinking about Mass. We enjoyed recapping and looking at different types of stained glass windows in Art and discussed and reflected upon what sort of design would we create.

Robin class

Image
Good afternoon all, The Robins have had a great time this week exploring Diversity week. The children have enjoyed learning about different people and cultures from around the world. They have asked lots of questions and shown a real eagerness to learn. The children have written their Talk 4 Write story about 'My lost Teddy'. Their writing has come on leaps and bounds since term 1, the children have put in so much work into their stories, I am so proud of them. Have a fantastic weekend from the Robins!

Woodpecker Class

Image
The Woodpeckers have been amazing writers this week. They have innovated our story ‘Where’s My Teddy?’ And written their own version independently. The children were very proud of their achievement and enjoyed sharing their stories with the rest of the class. In Maths this week, we have been focusing on using concrete materials to share into equal groups. During Jigsaw this week, we discussed how we can keep ourselves clean and safe at home. The children had to decide what objects and jobs they could do safely at home independently and which they need the support of an adult. As it has been Diversity Week this week, the children have been enjoying listening to stories about lots of different people and discussing how and why nobody is the same. I’m am so proud of how hard the Woodpeckers have worked this week - keep it up!

Mini Dragons Daisy Class

Image
The Daisy class had so much fun engaging with our sensory herbs and soaps last week, that we decided to let more magic bubbles happen this week.  The children have been totally engrossed with scraping, peeling, chopping and mashing up our different herbs to make their own unique scents, as well as add them to our play dough! It's been a wonderful experience watching the children discover how different ingredients can combine to make new and exciting smells! This week, as part of Diversity Week, we have been reading lots of Elmer stories, as well as 'The Mixed Up Chameleon' by Eric Carle, and 'Rainbow Fish' by Marcus Pfister.  These stories remind us that no matter who we are, no matter how we look, where we come from or how we feel, we are all one big family that can offer a lot of love and kindness.

Hedgehog Class

Image
Hedgehog Class In science we explored the question, 'Is all light the same?' by looking at different light sources and when they are used. We debated whether we would want all lights to be bright or if there times where a dim light would be best. Hedgehog also played 'light source charades', where we had to guess which light source someone was mimicking. In art we are continuing our learning of stained-glass windows. We explored an artist called Henri Matisse who was a famous french artist that was known for both his use of colour and his unique style. He made art that was for everyone and said " creativity takes courage ". Hedgehog class were inspired by his work and used this to draw connections into their own artwork. In maths this week we have been exploring litres. We used real life examples of containers to explore the different capacities. We enjoyed learning that 'taller' doesn't necessarily mean that it has more capacity/volume.  Super l...

Jellyfish Class - 22nd March 2024

Image
To celebrate Diversity Week in the Jellyfish class we have read lots of stories about different people, how things look on the outside what is on the inside, what is important, and how being different is good. As always the children were so sweet in their ideas and constantly reminded us that they don't judge superficial things, but care deeply about kindness and fun. We should all feel very proud of them. We continued to observe the caterpillars in the classroom and gained some new ones on Monday. They have been munching their way through the leaves the children like to feed them and watch enthusiastically.

ฺีButterfly Class - 22nd March 2024

Image
This week has been a whirlwind of new learning opportunities and experiences in Butterfly class:) It has been wonderful to celebrate Diversity Week with the children. We read lots of books that helped the children understand how everyone is different- we like different things, we look different, we live in different family set ups, we are good at different things and we enjoy different things. The children did lots of artwork and played games to help them to understand this concept.  We have also loved using our new EY 'playroom', where the children have amazed us with their energy levels! They have been running, swinging, jumping and climbing together.  In maths, we have learnt to recognise and understand numbers 11-15 and continue to solve maths problems in a very practical way, using the farm animals to help us!  We have also been story-tellers, mummies, daddies, amazing musicians and problem solvers.  Well done, Butterflies! There is certainly never a dull moment...

In Talk4Write, we carried on with our Farmer Duck story map, laughing as we repeated "how goes the work? Quack!" during our retell. We are thoroughly enjoying this story and are eagerly awaiting our field trip to the farm.

Headmaster's message 15th March 2024

Image
Dear Parents and Guardians, We come to the end of a fantastic week at DBS. Yesterday we had our Year 3 and 4 production which I heard was fantastic but unfortunately was unable to attend due to other commitments. Last night we also welcomed students from the Beaumont Ruam Pattana School to our campus for games on our sports facilities followed by dinner. Today we held our eco-conference. I was blown away by the quality of our student speakers and the way that they could fluently talk about a range of complex environmental themes. For me it was a demonstration of the pillars we base our education on. Our students demonstrated academic excellence, Entrepreneurship, Wellbeing and Sustainability and Thai values in a global context and the music demonstrated the strength of our Enhanced British Curriculum. Well done to all of our students and staff who were involved in the planning and deliver of this event. Tomorrow morning we have an early start for the Pancake run. This is not how I usua...

A fantastic start for Under 15 Badminton

Image
It was Denla's inaugural Badminton match and the pupils had a fantastic experience in their first ever match.  With some excellent quality on display, the boys found the first round of matches difficult but gained valuable experience in coming up against better players.  The Girls however won the match like "ducks to water" achieving some excellent results in both Singles and doubles. The game was played in both a friendly but competitive nature and overall I believe all pupils gained a lot of benefit from this match. A fantastic start for Under 15 Badminton View Gallery

Thank you, Mr. McCaul, for creating the giant Origami Crane for the Year 9C Japan project

Image
We all witnessed a fantastic and memorable event during the 2024 DBS International Day before the mid-term break, organised by Mr. Apter.  Year 9C students celebrated Japan as their representative country. Year 9 students began to brainstorm ideas on how they could influence and engage the DBS community to share their enthusiasm for Japanese cultural knowledge during their preparation sessions. On the remembrance day, I shared  Sadako's story along with a peace message. Sadako, born in Hiroshima, attempted to create 1000 cranes with wishes for world peace. Inspired by Sadako's story, Year 9 students decided to create something meaningful with cranes. Mr. McCaul kindly offered to create a giant crane using solid materials as a beautiful art project. The Giant Crane was displayed in the foyer of D4 during the International Day event, and it was a collaborative effort involving Year 9C students  in its artistic decoration. The members of the Crane team were Teddy, Charming, ...
