Our First Week in the Tulip Class🌷

Image
The Tulip Class was off to a great start this week! Our new Tulips have been settling in, learning their new routine, and getting to know their new friends. It is always difficult to say goodbye to family for the first time but the Tulips made sure to take good care of each other when one of them was upset by bringing tissues and plenty of toys to help their new friends feel better. It has been really nice to see how they are taking on this new adventure together. We look forward to welcoming them back next week! - The Tulip Class

Headmaster's message Friday 12th January 2024

Dear Parents and Guardians, It was a pleasure to welcome your children back to school this week. I hope they had a restful break. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year! On Monday, all staff were in school for training on a range of areas relating to teaching and learning, pastoral care and also some sports training for teachers involved in coaching. This training aligned us for our priorities in the term ahead. It has been a busy first week back and we had our first House events of the term with some house basketball and football competitions in Prep. Thankfully the air quality today was good enough for this. We have had to make several adjustments due to air quality this week and we monitor the air quality at regular intervals throughout the day. Next week, I will be in London from Tuesday for our second round of recruitment. We have exceptionally low teacher turnover this year so most of our recruitment is focusing on additional teachers due to the expans

Head of Senior School Message

A warm welcome back Please let me start by extending a warm welcome back to our students, parents, and staff who are returning after a well-deserved break. It has been great to be reconnected with the energy and enthusiasm coming from our students as they reunite with friends and embark on another chapter of learning. It was also great to see so  many Year 9 parents engaging with our Parent Teacher Meeting yesterday. A firm reminder of the importance of school-home partnership. I am delighted to introduce an innovative tool that looks to improve communication and collaboration – the DBS Senior School Line Account. This platform has been carefully curated to bridge the gap between the school and parents, offering real-time updates on important events, academic achievements, and crucial announcements. Our goal is to ensure that you, as valued parents, remain well-informed partners in your child's educational journey. Your involvement and support are integral to the success of our e

Head of Prep's Message

Dear DBS Prep Parents and Guardians, It has been a fantastic return to school this week and a very positive start to 2024. The new year brings new opportunities and Mr Orton led an inspiring assembly about Dreams and Goals to launch our new Jigsaw puzzle piece. In this topic, the students will work to identify their passions and set practical goals for themselves. Emphasising perseverance, the curriculum teaches that challenges are part of the journey. Students learn to view failure as a learning opportunity, developing a growth mindset. The program also includes lessons on resilience, attitudes, and future careers. We look forward to hearing about our students' Dreams and Goals. We encourage them to dream big and aim high in 2024 and beyond! Before the students returned to campus on Tuesday, our staff engaged in a very productive training day on Monday at DBS. Class teachers from Years 3-6 enjoyed a basketball coaching session led by one of our basketball coaches, Coach Samson, a

The Diamond Challenge

Image
Two teams of Year 10 students have been finalising their applications for the Diamond Challenge. The Diamond Challenge is a competition hosted by the University of Delaware for high school students to showcase their groundbreaking innovations. In the first stage of the competition, students needed to write a concept narrative and create an introductory video about their business. Our students have chosen to enter the social innovation track, which means that their business ideas aim to solve social and environmental issues, including food waste and the rise in people's dietary requirements. If students make it to the next round of the competition, they will be invited to a virtual pitch, during which they will present live to a board of judges. I would like to express a big thank you and congratulations to Ali, Disha, Ben, Ink, and Lydia for your time and dedication to the competition so far. I look forward to seeing how you progress in the competition.

What a great first week back for Sea Turtles! It has been great to see so many happy smiling faces walking so confidently back into our classroom. This week we started our new focus story in Talk 4 Write called 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt', and have enjoyed recreating some of the settings from the story, such as grass, a river and mud. In our phonics sessions, we have been learning about the sound 'm', and are beginning to understand which sounds that words start with as well as spotting 'm' when it is written. We were extremely lucky to have Theo's Dad join us on Thursday to do a science experiment with us! It was very fun learning about germs around us and how to keep ourselves safe by handwashing correctly. We have enjoyed continuing our learning in music, swimming and Thai, and look forward to another great week next week!

We are very excited to have a new member of the Jellyfish Class this term, so a big, warm welcome to Krystal, she is settling in well and is already making friends.   Yesterday was a full house for swimming which is fantastic. Most of the Jellyfish love to swim, but I am so proud of those who are less confident and are giving it a go, they were very brave, so well done, and keep going.
