Head of Senior Message - What's a scholar?

Image
In this week's assembly, we talked about scholars and today we were assessing scholars and it is a welcome time to remember what exactly scholars look like at DBS and why are they seen as so much more than just getting a discount from tuition fees. In the Senior School, we think of a scholar as someone who really loves a certain subject and has a clear passion for an area. One that is theirs alone and one that can be clearly evidenced by both words and actions. This love for learning is what makes our students excited to dive into their subjects, ask questions, and want to learn more. Being a scholar here means understanding the fun in learning. It's not just about getting good grades; it's about liking the journey of figuring things out. Our scholars are curious, they think carefully about things, and they always want to know more. This way of thinking it's for everything they do, whether it's science, maths or business. Our teachers are like guides on this learnin

Head of Prep's Message

Image
Dear DBS Prep Parents and Guardians, I have enjoyed meeting many parents over the last week at sports matches and during our Year 3&4 Parent Rep meeting. As a result of your feedback, we are organising some new workshops to help provide information about the next steps in your child's journey through Prep School and beyond. Many parents are interested in learning more about how DBS prepares students for GCSE and A Level courses and University pathways and applications. We will focus on these topics in our upcoming Prep and Senior School forum  (Tuesday, March 5th) and warmly invite you to join us on Saturday, March 2nd, for a University Workshop and Fair. For parents of younger children, we invite you to learn more about 'The Journey to Year 7' and how we prepare students for the exciting challenges of Key Stage 3 and transitioning to a full specialist curriculum. We will share the date of this workshop next week and recommend it to all parents of students in Years 3-

It was a joyous occasion, and your presence undoubtedly made it even more special for the children. DBS STAFF FOOTBALL

Image
10 members of staff from DBS represented the school in an inter-schools staff football tournament in the centre of Bangkok over the past weekend. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day for all. The team performed admirably and came 3rd in their group before bowing out in the semi-finals of the plate competition. Our aim will be to go one step further next time and make the final!  After only a handful of training sessions so far, it  was a good test against lots of different opposition. It was also a fantastic way to connect with fellow teachers that are working at a range of different international schools here in Bangkok.  Should parents wish to organise a team and play against the DBS staff, training sessions take place every Monday after ASA1 on the main sports field from 4:30 - 5:30pm. If you’re interested, do contact Mr Jones via his email for more information:  jones.le@dbsbangkok.ac.th   Thank you!

U9 Girls Basketball vs Shrewsbury

Image
In the U9 girls' basketball game, both teams exhibited commendable skills. Their performance was characterized by exceptional teamwork and sportsmanship, creating a positive and spirited atmosphere.  By the second quarter, our team had secured a significant lead with a score of 28-0, showcasing their prowess in offense and defense. In the spirit of fostering camaraderie and ensuring an enjoyable experience for all, a decision was made to mix the two teams.  This collaborative effort allowed the young athletes to continue playing together, emphasizing the joy of the sport over the competition.  The girls, now united on the court, continued to display remarkable teamwork and sportsmanship, creating a memorable and uplifting experience for everyone involved.
