Head of Prep's Message
Dear DBS Prep Parents and Guardians,
Yesterday, we were taken on a magical mystery tour by our Year 3&4 students in their production, 'A Day in the Life'. The show was inspired by the music of The Beatles, and the vast array of activities we enjoy in a DBS school year. Every class took to the stage to share a scene and a Beatles song, accompanied by our superb staff band. The show felt like an incredible journey with some beautiful messages of courage, embracing challenges, working together, being open to learning and having fun! They ended the show with a united performance of one of my favourite songs, 'All You Need is Love,' underneath a surprise balloon shower and rapturous applause!! Congratulations to all the students, and thank you to the team of staff who enabled it to happen, and also to the parents for being a wonderful audience!
This week, we celebrated STEAM week, thinking about how science, art, technology and maths enrich our lives. Students in Years 7&8 enjoyed a highly contested maths relay challenge, and the entire school had the chance to enter the annual Pi challenge. Congratulations to Puth from Year 8 who made it to 204 digits. Superb! Students also enjoyed discovering what Art means to our teachers, and I hope they feel inspired to look in new places for creative inspiration and escape. The week culminated in our annual DBS Eco Conference, and a highlight was hearing from two Prep students, Matoom and Libby, who both gave a speech about an environmental issue that matters to them. Libby's insightful speech about Biodiversity inspired students and staff in Years 2-6 to make conscious changes to our lives to protect the natural world. Matoom addressed Year 7-13 students with passion and eloquence about the next steps in Sustainability. As two members of our Prep Student Leadership Team, these students have shown what a difference they can make, inspiring us all to make changes for the better.
I hope to see many of you bright and early tomorrow for the first-ever DBS Pancake Run!
Very best wishes,
Mary Bridges
