Headmaster's Message 26th April 2024

Image
Dear Parents and Guardians, We have had a successful first week back as we move into intensive revision in the year groups with external examinations and other year groups consolidate their knowledge for end of year assessments. The high temperature has meant that we have had to tailor and sometimes cancel outdoor play and also had an impact on PE and Sports fixtures. Hopefully we will see some rain soon to break the heatwave. This week has demonstrated the very best of our musical talent with our Prep and Senior Music scholars events and today, our house 'Voice' competition. What a week of absolutely spine-tingling performances! I would like to remind parents of the importance of driving safely on campus. We had a case of a car collision exiting the campus this week. It is our expectation that if accidents like this happen, that parents follow all of the insurance protocols, promptly share their details and act in line with the values of the school. Sadly, in this most recent

Head of Senior's Message - Exam time

Image
It has been great to come back after the break. Term 3, though, signals exam time for all of the students in the senior school. For three-year groups, these external Exams can induce significant stress but with the right strategies, students can conquer anxiety and perform better. Here are my top three tips for managing stress during exams: Effective Time Management: Plan the study schedule in advance, allocating specific time slots for each subject or topic. Break down study sessions into manageable chunks to prevent overwhelm. Prioritise tasks based on importance and deadline, using tools like planners or digital calendars. Take regular breaks to rest and recharge, avoiding long periods of continuous study. Self-Care and Relaxation Techniques: Prioritize self-care by getting enough sleep, eating nutritious meals, and engaging in regular exercise. Take breaks to engage in activities you enjoy, like listening to music or going for a walk, to alleviate stress and maintain a positive m

Head of Prep's Message

Image
Dear DBS Prep School Parents and Guardians, Welcome to Term 3! This week, we launched our next puzzle piece in our Jigsaw Program, our PSHE curriculum for all Prep students. The name of this puzzle piece is Relationships. In our assemblies, we discussed the importance of building a respectful relationship with ourselves and being aware of negative aspects of relationships that can affect our wellbeing. In their lessons this term, the students will cover topics such as families, friendships, pets and animals and love and loss. A vital part of this unit is about safeguarding and keeping children safe - students learn how to deal with conflict, build assertiveness, and identify their strengths and strategies for building self-esteem and resilience. A film that was discussed in our assembly for Y3-5 students was Inside Out 2, which is released in cinemas in June across Thailand. It's worth considering for a visit as it's all about getting to know our emotions and balancing them a

Our first week back has been buzzing with excitement as we celebrated Book Week, diving into storytelling adventures with our little ones, who were brimming with excitement, creativity and joy!  The children have enjoyed stories with enthusiasm, crafting individual and class books that will soon be on the shelves of our Pre-Prep library. They've been exploring the anatomy of books, from the allure of the front cover to the intrigue of blurbs, while distinguishing the unique features of fiction and non-fiction. On Friday

U15 Football Boys vs Kings

Image
This was our second match against Kings this season, after a 2-0 win in our first.  Going into the match we were feeling confident and have played some lovely football this season. The first half of the match was tight but we definitely created some great chances and were unlucky not to score.  The team were defensively very solid and was well structured so Kings did not have any chances to speak of. It was towards the end of the match that we started to play with a little more freedom and eventually, after a few chances, the boys scored thanks to a solo run from Tung. In truth, King's didn't really have a shot on target so we were very unlucky to concede a last-minute goal from a direct free kick.  The team made DBS proud and has had a great season in general. Nursery school trip to the Bangkok Butterfly and Insectarium

Image
On Thursday 4th April, Nursery took a very exciting trip to the Bangkok Insectarium and Butterfly Garden!  The children were thrilled to ride on the coach together for the first time, and showed great listening skills when experiencing an interesting talk by a butterfly specialist. We saw many different types of caterpillars, as well as tiny eggs and colourful cocoons leading to very engaged and enthusiastic children.  After talking about the life cycle of the butterfly, we went out in the special butterfly garden where we found many different butterflies amongst the greenery. Some children were even brave enough to hold a butterfly, and were very careful to keep them as safe as possible. Our Nursery children loved having a special picnic lunch together! After this, the children also took part in a great scavenger hunt outside in the forest area, to see what they could find out in the natural world.  We saw all kinds of leaves, insects, birds and even a house made of sticks! Year 5 Literacy Week - Extreme Reading Competition

Image
During the Songkran break, the Year 5 children were assigned an activity to take a photograph reading a book of their choice in an unusual location. The children really got into the extreme reading challenge! They found super fun and unusual places to read, like climbing frames, swimming pools, hospitals or even in Ninja studios. It was amazing to see how creative they got with their reading spots! This activity is fantastic because it helps inspire and promote the love for reading even more. By exploring different places to read, they're using their imagination and having fun with books. Thank you parents for your support with encouraging your children to take part—it's been great seeing their creativity shine this week during literacy week. Here were the two winning entries out of many from this weeks challenge. Well done Year 5!

Sunflower Class

Image
It was lovely to welcome all the children back after the school holiday and to celebrate Book Week. We have been focusing on the wonderful series of books “That’s Not My….”  This series is designed to develop children’s sensory awareness and to promote language.  Along with sharing some of the books, it has been a great opportunity to explore a wide range of different materials and introduce children to words such as “smooth”, “rough”, “bumpy”, “squashy”.  We have also created our very own book of “That’s Not My Mini Dragon” which we read as our bedtime story on Friday afternoon. Have a lovely weekend. The Sunflower Team

Dragonfly Class

Image
We've kicked off term 3 with an incredible burst of energy and learning!  One of our highlights was crafting our very own non-fiction book delving into the fascinating world of hippos, a delightful addition to our library for families to enjoy. Our Jungle Dance Party was a hit, introducing us to the enchanting tale of 'Giraffes Can't Dance' in Talk4Write. In maths, we've showcased our mastery of numbers up to 20 through engaging partner games, colorful hidden number activities, and the use of numicons and tens frames, enriching our learning experience. As we look ahead, anticipation and excitement fill the air for all the adventures and discoveries yet to unfold in the final term.  Here's to a fantastic journey ahead!

The children completed family portraits in Jigsaw this week to mark the start of our new topic - Relationships. We discussed what the term family means and the children discussed who was in their family. Well done Woodpeckers on a great week - keep up the hard work!

Mini Dragons Daisy Class

We are so excited to be back at school with our friends! We welcomed some new faces to our class this week: Korbua, Gyu-Ri and Ryan! We are so happy to have new friends to share our happy experiences with. We've enjoyed learning each other's names and play games together cooperatively. We've been doing lots of imaginative exploration in our shared space as well as the Early Years Village. The children have loved pretending to sell ice cream, shop for food, be a doctor helping their friends feel better, and drive the fire truck! We are looking forward to our celebration of Book Week. We read 'That's Not My Dragon' and focused on colours. We even made our own digital book which we will share on our SeeSaw page.

In our maths lessons, we delved into the topic of fractions, exploring various methods of representing parts of a whole. Additionally, we celebrated 'Book Week,' immersing ourselves in diverse genres each day. The week concluded with a wonderful experience of reading to the EY children, where the Hedgehog class demonstrated courage and kindness during storytime.
