Head of Senior's Message

Nurturing Great Global Leaders Last week, our Year 12s identified and began to tame their inner critic. This is an essential skill for becoming a more effective leader. The Global Leaders course, led by our incredible University Counsellor, Ms. Holly Murray, provides a nurturing environment to develop this vital aspect of leadership. We revealed perfectionists, underminers, taskmasters, destroyers and many more. It was a real eye-opener for some and an incredible bonding experience for all to realise they are not alone in this experience. Understanding your inner critic enables you to recognize self-doubt and negative thought patterns that can hinder your decision-making and leadership style. By confronting these internal barriers, you can foster self-confidence and resilience, two qualities indispensable for guiding and motivating your team. Holly Murray's course offers practical tools and strategies to pinpoint and silence your inner critic. Through guided introspection and self-

Dear Parents and Guardians, We have had another productive week here at DBS. Last weekend we hosted the Denla Group swimming gala, a fun day with a high standard of competition. It is one of the advantages of being part of a group that our students get to take part in these activities. On Tuesday, we held the Cool 4 school workshop led by Marcel Pusey. It was very fun to end the day seeing our Pre-Prep and Prep students dancing on the stage and even our parents dancing at the end. On Thursday, we held our first open day of the year. Some parents commented on the politeness of our students and it is pleasing to see them making such a positive impression. Today, Mr Dunphy and I are gong to to visit the Beaumont Ruam Pattana School who we supported last year through our charity event. We are looking forward to seeing the impact of our donations and looking at how we can further establish links and support the school. This week we held the first of our parent briefings on residentials whi

Deputy Headmaster's Message

Image
Dear Parents and Guardians, As the weeks continue their unstoppable march through Term 1, we find ourselves gearing up for the much-anticipated November residentials. The excitement is palpable, not just among the students, but the staff as well. These trips represent more than just a break from the classroom; they offer our students invaluable life experiences that extend well beyond the academic sphere. I can fondly remember my residentials, with the most memorable being a ski trip to Austria in February of 1992. Although this was only a few months before my GCSE examinations, the school was assured in the belief that a well rounded education should include development of the students outside of the classroom. This was not my first residential, but it was my first time to mainland Europe, and also my first time overseas without my parents. Needless to say there was a lot of trepidation before the trip started, but that was all forgotten as soon as I waved goodbye to my parents as w

Dear DBS Prep Parents, Time is flying in the world of DBS, and we have reached the end of week five already! The new student leaders were announced in today's assembly. I speak on behalf of all the staff by saying that we are very proud of everyone who has put themselves forward to take on a new role or responsibility this year. Students have demonstrated the DBS values already in going through this process: courage to put themselves forward integrity in respecting and following the fair and proper process humility by being gracious in both success and defeat generosity in helping others when needed empathy in supporting their friends and peers with kindness Over the coming weeks and months, we look forward to supporting our new leadership teams to bring their ideas to the table and further improve what we do at DBS. A huge highlight of this week was the Cool4School workshop on Tuesday. We were delighted to welcome Marcel Pusey for his second visit to DBS, and once again, he

Your support and partnership in ensuring a safe and enjoyable swimming experience for your child are greatly appreciated. We look forward to seeing you next week at the Nursery and Reception ‘Swim Showcase’ where you will be able to watch your child’s swimming lesson. COOL4SCHOOL IS BACK On Tuesday, 19 Sep, w e were honoured to host Marcel, the founder of Cool4School, for the second year running at DBS today. Our Pre-Prep and Prep students were treated to an unforgettable day of high-energy workshops. Through a blend of diverse musical genres like Reggae, Latin, and Funk, Marcel brought rhythms and grooves to life, captivating our students and sparking their enthusiasm for music. Beyond just melodies, the workshops intertwined movement and dance, providing a holistic experience that not only taught musicality but also encouraged physical activity. The Daisy class have been working hard on sharing the toys and space, investigating how water changes dry materials, and developing lots of gross and fine motor skills. We have loved visiting the MD Garden and seeing lots of insects and different plants. We particularly love using the water pump to see how it changes the sand from light to dark.

An amazing week in Pufferfish class!

We have continued being creative, making animals such as caterpillars and spiders, with lots of different resources. In Thai we have been practicing for Wai Kru, learning how to sit and bow our heads, before presenting a flower to the teachers. We have also practiced our physical skills during PE by climbing, balancing and jumping through obstacle courses.  Well done Pufferfish, you are all amazing!

Bumblebee Class

Image
This week in Bumblebee class we have had a very fun and busy week. One of our highlights of this week was the Cool4School performance, where we had the pleasure of being taught 3 new songs and dances by Marcel Pusey. We then performed this to our school and families. As well as this reception sung the song ‘Hello to all the children of the world’ to families at the pre-prep open day. Well done Bumblebee’s for giving it your all in both performances. We have also been busy learning 5 more letter sounds: i, n, p, g, o. In math’s we have been comparing size and mass through lessons and through our play. We have been using the mathematical language of ‘bigger’ ‘smaller’ ‘heavy’ and ‘light’.

This week we have also enjoyed using actions and the tuff tray puppets to re-tell our story ‘Owl Babies’, We liked joining in with Bill as he said ‘I want my mummy!”. The children created their own owls out of clay and feathers after going on a nature walk to see if we could spot the DBS owls. In Maths we revised the language of ‘big’ and ‘small’ and compared size as we measured ourselves. For Phonics we continued with our set 1 sounds, this week learning how to say, read and write the sounds ‘I’, ’n’, ‘p’, ‘g’ and ‘o’.

Dragonfly Class

Phonics and ASL: Our students made remarkable progress learning their phonics letters and added a special touch by learning ASL signs for each letter, promoting communication skills and inclusivity. Congratulations to Khanmak, our Star of the Week, for always demonstrating Courage in our class and persevering through hard tasks. A busy week in the Butterfly class

Image
Well done, Butterfly class for another fabulous week of learning! What fun you have had finding out more information about birds and their habitats. This week we really enjoyed starting to make some birds boxes for the many birds we have seen around our school! We have even found a pair of beautiful owls that live in the roof next to the DBS tennis courts-what luck:) We have loved using torches to play in a dark classroom and the children have laughed a lot at the scary faces they can pull in the dark! It has been lovely meeting our parents properly and finding out a little more about your children's interests at home too. In maths this week we have been investigating the concept of BIG and small. We measured ourselves and the children also had fun giving the correct items to big and small bears. In Art we started building our safe cottages out of recycled materials whilst in Maths we have begun our next unit of addition and subtraction.

Jellyfish Class

Image
We were very lucky to have attended the Cool 4 School, Music and, Movement Workshop on Tuesday. Not only was it fun and engaging it also gave the children the opportunity to get up on the stage of the Araya Hall, something I hope they will do lots more of. The children are becoming more creative in their play and even starting to connect what they are doing to familiar stories. This week we have been playing hide and seek and making hiding places around the classroom and outside in the Mini Dragons Garden. This has been a fun way for the children to practice counting and taking turns.
