Head of Prep's Message

Dear DBS Prep Parents and Guardians, Thank you for your support this week as we navigated the challenges posed by the fluctuating AQI affecting our House Sports tournaments. Adapting, postponing, or modifying the format of sports events at short notice became imperative, and your understanding has been invaluable. The students also demonstrated great adaptability, and these situations are always good learning experiences for the future.   This morning, we held the last assembly in our series focussing on the 5 DBS Values: Integrity, Empathy, Courage, Generosity and Humility. We thought about how we can build and show humility and learnt from arguably the greatest distance runner of all time, Eliud Kipchoge. His humility, evident alongside his remarkable success, serves as an inspiration for us all. Kipchoge attributes his accomplishments to the support and collaboration of those around him, leading a humble life centred on hard work and appreciation for the contributions of peers and c

Learning Through Play

Image
This week, Dr. Bee visited DBS and captivated parents with an enlightening presentation on the significance of play in early childhood education.  In her engaging session, she provided a unique insight into the dynamic learning environment within the school's Early Years department. Dr. Bee emphasised the importance of fostering creativity and cognitive development through play, highlighting how children absorb vital life skills while engaged in activities that spark curiosity.  She passionately conveyed that the youngest learners at DBS are encouraged to explore their surroundings, collaborate with peers, and develop problem-solving skills through hands-on experiences.  Parents were encouraged to embrace the idea that education goes beyond traditional desks and textbooks.  A special thank you to all of the parents who attended the session and to Dr. Bee for her inspiring insights.

U9 Boys Basketball vs Shrewsbury

Image
On Monday 15th January, we had our first game of the season for the U9 boys basketball team. We played against Shrewsbury and they came to our school to play.  We had many parents turn out to give the players much needed support. It being our first game, there were many nerves and everyone was excited to play. We started the game strong and built a good lead. Most importantly, everyone was involved. From strong defensive plays and great passing, the boys were flowing.  The teamwork and communication was really impressive. It was great to see them apply the skills we have taught them during our Games Lessons. The final score was 22 - 4.  The Dragons will have to continue their hard work and perseverance as they prepare for the BISA tournament at the end of the month.  Let's go Dragons! View Gallery

Year 9 presents House Activity

Origami (folding paper)  Tsuru(crane) Orizuru おりづる Today, senior school students participated in a multicultural learning activity: origami-making sessions. This served as our introductory activity for the upcoming DBS International Day. The orizuru (folding paper crane) has become a symbol of world peace. In Hiroshima and Nagasaki, millions of orizuru are donated each year from all over the world. Young children in Japan engage in origami (paper folding), which is one of the traditional Japanese crafts.  Year 9 students practised folding origami papers and, in turn, taught Year 10, 11, 12, and 13 students how to fold as part of their leadership skill development opportunities. Below are some reflections from students about their hands-on activities; I think that participating in this morning's Origami activity is quite fun and exciting, yet feels peaceful. I also appreciate the creativity the Y9 students and sensei offer to us. (House Leaders)  According to a Year 9 student they f

Fun Sushi Cooking Lesson

Image
Japanese Teacher  Masako Chikushi (Sensei) Do you like sushi? Can you guess how many Japanese restaurants exist in Thailand? According to the Japanese External Trade Organisation (JETRO), there are 5,325 Japanese restaurants in Thailand this year, and it is expected to increase further in the future. Japanese food is well-known for being healthy worldwide. Japanese is a brand new subject for students at DBS since August of last year. Given the strong and trusted friendships that Thailand and international countries have established with Japan and its people, it is important to enhance knowledge and skills in DBS students as they prepare to become global future leaders. Year 7, 8, 9, and 10 students welcomed their new learning skills to become sushi chefs in our shiny D5 kitchen. Initially, students researched sushi before their cooking class to develop a deeper understanding of detailed information about sushi. Students successfully expanded their understanding, identifying reasons why
