Headmaster's message 29th March 2024

Image
Dear Parents and Guardians, This week we held our first Pre-scholars breakfast where our first set of Pre-Scholars were awarded their certificates, badges and reading list. This is another step in us improving our scholar and pre-scholar programme to move them emphasis towards their academic benefit and how they can benefit the rest of the student body. We had another parent foodtasting session this week with one of my favourite dishes on the menu, Khao Soi Gai! Thank you to the parents who attended. Yesterday we had some excellent 6th Form and Year 11 Drama examination performances. The standard was exceptionally high. This was a busy week for our drama department as we prepare for our senior production next week. Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the Beaumont Foundation golf event dinner where along with some DBS parents we presented a cheque for 282,844 Baht. This has been another great year for charity and we have also raised a substantial amount for Rainbow house too. W

Head of Senior's Message - Leadership - Serving to lead?

Image
Leadership has been very much the hot topic of the week in meetings and with the leadership scholarship interviews occuring today.  Leadership is an art that transcends mere management; it embodies vision, inspiration, and the ability to drive change. Within the realm of leadership, there exists a diverse array of styles, each with its unique approach and impact. In the dynamic landscape of global business, nurturing great leaders is paramount for sustained growth and success. At DBS, the emphasis on cultivating exceptional leaders not only fosters organisational resilience but also drives innovation and fosters a culture of excellence. In the competitive landscape of globalised economies and labour markets, the role of leadership cannot be overstated. DBS recognises that developing great leaders is essential not only for driving performance but also for fostering a positive organisational culture and contributing to the greater good of society. Reflecting over the past four weeks seve

Head of Prep's Message

Dear Prep School Parents and Guardians, It is always a delight to reflect on highlights from the past week in the Prep School. Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting our Pre-Scholars Breakfast, a celebratory event where we formally awarded the title of Pre-Scholar to students in Years 3-6 who have reached very competitive benchmarks in their academic performance. It was a wonderful occasion as we presented awards and books to our students, recognising their hard work, dedication, and accomplishments. Congratulations to our first group of Pre-Scholars. Across the Prep School, our students have demonstrated fantastic focus and resilience, approaching their half-term assessments with a calm and determined mindset. This is a testament to their commitment to academic excellence and their willingness to apply their learning. I have been pleased to notice how confidently our students are taking assessments in their stride. Assessments are not something to fear as they give both teachers an

I would like to say a very big thank you to all the parents who joined us for the food tasting event over the past three weeks, provided by Food House. Your participation not only provided valuable insight into your children's dining experience but also allowed for  discussions and inquiries directly with our food providers. Your feedback is invaluable to us as we strive to continually enhance the dining experience for our students. We kindly request that you take a moment to complete the feedback form, ensuring that your input guides us in maintaining the highest standards of service. Looking ahead to next week, we have an exciting lineup of events planned for our Pre-Prep children. Amidst the gleeful chatter and bubbling excitement, our students delved into the captivating world of biomes, our current focus in humanities. From the moment we stepped foot into the museum, the air was charged with anticipation. The children's eyes sparkled with curiosity as they embarked on a journey through various ecosystems, each meticulously recreated to offer an immersive learning experience. As part of the Diversity and Equality week, the Sports Department hosted a charity Netball match in celebration of Women in Sport. It was a brilliant event, bringing everyone in the community together for an exhilarating week. It was a close game throughout but the staff took the lead in the final quarter with the final score being 7-6 to the staff. It was lovely to welcome Pre-prep to the event and many senior students supported from the balcony. Thank you for coming - it was an amazing atmosphere!! Thank you to the Wellbeing Student group who ran the charity stall selling sweets and bright pink shoelaces. We managed to raise 3500THB for the charity Equality Now which is a fantastic achievement. Thank you to all those that donated! And finally, a big thank you to all the students and staff that played in the match, and to the staff that supported and helped with the running of the event. It was greatly appreciated! We hope you enjoyed the event and we look forward to many more events

Sunflower Class

Image
Following on from Diversity Week, this week our focus has been on the story Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. This is another lovely story that celebrates difference and also promotes generosity.  The Rainbow Fish has beautiful sparkling scales that she does not want to share at first but as the story develops Rainbow Fish begins to learn to be generous with her friends. We had a fantastic music session with Mr Gower.  It is lovely to see how much the children’s listening and attention skills have grown.   Have a lovely weekend and we are looking forward to celebrating Songkran with the children next week.  Please look out for all the details on SeeSaw.   The Sunflower Team

Robin Class

Image
The Robins have had a brilliant week! We have started our Fractions topic which they have done incredibly in. Learning how to cut different objects in half to create a fraction is not easy but the Robins have been fantastic. We have also learnt about diary entries in our English, learning how to write to our diary about different events. The children also built on their knowledge of 1st person, present and past tense in order to complete this. The Robins have worked so hard this term and are excited for a well deserved break! Thank you to all of you for your help and support. Best wishes, Mr. Ashmore and The Robins

Fox Class

Image
What a great week the Foxes have had! They have been working extremely hard this week! I'm so proud of their hot write stories where they independently wrote their own narratives of a character who banned the light! In Science, we explored the terms bright and dim and sorted and ordered light sources depending on how much light they emit. This lead to some wonderful discussions as we debated whether the sun is always the brightest light source at all times of the day.

Ladybird Week - 29th March

Image
Our Ladybird Class has been buzzing with energy as the children enthusiastically rehearsed for their class assembly. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication, and we are so pleased with their amazing performance this afternoon. In maths, we've embarked on an exploration of numbers 1-20. Through hands-on activities and engaging resources, the children have been honing their counting skills and practicing addition sums. They've also been introduced to the concept of a number line and have been adeptly figuring out missing numbers. In Literacy, our young learners have been on an imaginative journey as they innovated the story of 'Farmer Duck'. With boundless creativity, they've changed the characters and crafted their own unique narrative twists. Using their phonics knowledge, the children have skilfully written sentences about these new characters, showcasing their emerging literacy skills. As always, we encourage you to continue supporting your chil

The Bumblebee Class.

Image
What a learning-packed week it has been in Bumblebee class. This week we have been mathematicians! We have been learning about the numbers 15 to 19, and have enjoyed investigating and exploring different ways to show and make these numbers. This interest has expanded into our continuous provision where the bumblebees have been busy writing number stories and utilising the numicon to show how many ways they can make these numbers! In writing and phonics, we have continued to innovate the story of Farmer Duck. This week we wrote down our new stories by using our phonetic and red word knowledge. We even recorded these stories to share them with our families.  A huge well done to another amazing week!

Magpie Class

Image
Happy Friday! Magpie class have had a lovely week filled with friendship and fun! In maths, we have been looking at fractions and finding halves of both shapes and quantities. On to quarters next week!! In Mandarin, children have been consolidating all of their learning from across the term! I have also spotted some wonderful moments this week of great kindness and togetherness! What a fantastic class the Magpies are!
