Head of Pre-Prep's Message

Image
We hope this newsletter finds you well and filled with the same joy and excitement that has been buzzing through our Pre-Prep corridors this week! It's been an incredible time of celebrations and immersive learning experiences. On Thursday this week, our Early Years students took to the stage for their Christmas show. Dressed as an array of festive characters—reindeers, Santa's elves and helpers, snowmen, angels, snowflakes, gingerbread men, and Christmas trees—the children created a mesmerising sight. Their confidence and joy were infectious as they sang, danced, and embarked on a whimsical quest to find Santa. The culmination of their performance left the Araya Hall brimming with joy and festive spirit. We were all thrilled when they finally discovered Santa, and the entire audience joined in a heartwarming rendition of 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas.' It was truly a remarkable way to begin this year's Christmas festivities! Meanwhile, our Year 1 and 2 students

Dear Parents and Guardians, We come to the end of a wonderful week at DBS as we welcome our Year 3-10 and Year 12 students back from their residentials. They have had some amazing and joyful experiences which they will always remember. Yesterday, we held our magical Early Years Christmas show in the Araya Hall. It was great to see 145 students performing on the stage and the hall filled with parents, siblings, grandparents and aunts and uncles joining in the festive cheers. This week our Year 1 and 2 students were following their creative curriculum week where they learned many geographical concepts. The week ended with a beach party in the garden with water fights and a nice ice cream to end the week. We now move into the busy last few weeks of term and next week we get into the Christmas spirit with the lighting of our Christmas tree and the Year 1 and 2 Christmas show. Have a nice weekend. Deputy Headmaster's Message - Mock Exam Week

Image
Dear Parents and Guardians, As we reach the end of the IGCSE and A-Level Mock Exam Week, it's an opportune moment to reflect on the value these exams hold in our students' academic journey. The Mock exams were not just practise runs; they played a crucial role in preparing our students for the real, external exams in May/June 2024. They offered a realistic glimpse into the exam environment, helping students refine their time management and stress-coping strategies, and importantly, provided a platform for them to identify both their strengths and areas needing improvement. The period following the mock exams is just as critical. Next week, the Y11 specialist teachers will be engaged in providing detailed feedback, an invaluable part of the process. This personalised analysis is vital for our students, guiding them in fine-tuning their study and revision strategies. It's a transformative time where potential weaknesses are turned into strengths, and academic skills are honed

DBS Science and Art Collaboration

Image
During Science Week 2023, the Art and Design team took on the challenge to produce 'Feel The Atmosphere' inspired artwork.  The aim was to produce work which could then be used to add the appropriate finishing touches to our incredible new Senior Science Labs. Led by Mr Durman, Mr McCaul and Mr Handley, students from Yr 8 and 9 well and truly rose to the challenge. "The title for Science Week 2023 was 'Feel the Atmosphere'.  To relate 'atmosphere' to Art to depict its ever changing force of energy in the skies above as artists, we turned to the impassioned paintings of impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh.  All of the Y8 classes combined forces to create abstract artwork using oil pastels: vivid colours with overlapping layers and swirls. The best work was then selected for external printing, beautiful 1m x 1m student master pieces. An exhilarating project which combined the best of Art, Science and DT" writes Mr Durman. Mr Neville added "My tha
