Headmaster's message 17th November 2023

Dear Parents and Guardians, I write to you from London this week where I am coming to the end of a teacher recruitment round. Going to the market early, we have managed to get access to outstanding candidates. All of our candidates have gone through a rigorous multi-step process with both remote and face to face interviews. I would like to focus this week on our U15 athletes who competed in the FOBISIA games. Their achievements were truly impressive. Over 4 days, they competed against schools from Malaysia, Vietnam and China in swimming, athletics, basketball and football. They won 22 medals in athletics including 6 golds and 23 medals in swimming including another 6 gold medals. In basketball, our girls came third and finished 4th in football after a fantastic playoff game.  The most emotional trials of this competition. happened in the boys under 15 football. The boys won all of their group matches, going into the final as the dominant team. The final battle was tough with the score

Deputy Headmaster's Message - Recruitment

Image
Dear Parents and Guardians, As we approach the end of Term 1, the school gets busier than usual with the important, character building Residentials and Mock Examinations. This is also the time of the year where we look to recruit the next cohort of teachers and school leaders to join DBS from August 2024. I am often asked questions about this, so I thought I would describe the process in this week’s newsletter. Recruitment is incredibly important as DBS continues to grow. Some might say that we are fortunate to have the quality teachers that we have at the school, but ‘fortune’ does not come into it as this is the result of a long process starting with a review of the staffing requirements for the next academic year, preparing the recruitment literature, posting the job adverts, reviewing hundreds of candidates, shortlisting our top picks, conducting final interviews, offering contracts and then onboarding In this, our first round of recruitment for this year, we received an average of

Participating in residential programs is a transformative experience for students, propelling them beyond the confines of their comfort zones and preparing them for the challenges of life beyond school. These immersive experiences foster personal growth, resilience, and crucial life skills that are invaluable in shaping future leaders. Residentials expose students to diverse environments, encouraging adaptability and problem-solving in unfamiliar situations. Navigating challenges away from the familiar classroom setting builds confidence and independence, qualities essential for leadership roles. Beyond academic achievement, great leaders are distinguished by their ability to face adversity head-on, a trait honed through real-world experiences. Furthermore, residentials provide opportunities for students to interact with peers from diverse backgrounds, fostering cultural understanding and collaboration. The global landscape demands leaders who can navigate complex, interconnected issue

Dear DBS Prep Parents, We had a wonderful time celebrating Diwali at DBS on Monday! Students and staff gathered to learn about the cultural significance of this revered Indian festival. We enjoyed a captivating student-led performance, accompanied by the gracious contributions of our Indian families and friends, who prepared exquisite traditional snacks and shared thoughtful gifts, offering a glimpse into their vibrant heritage. This communal celebration provided a meaningful platform for our school community to come together and honour the beauty of Diwali. Thank you so much to the parents, staff and students who helped to create such a magical start to our week. On Tuesday, our Year 6 students enjoyed a fascinating talk by Professor Brockleman. Dear Parents and Guardians, Welcome to another vibrant week in our Pre-Prep! It's been a week filled with accomplishments, excitement, and delightful moments that truly showcase the wonderful spirit of our young learners. We kicked off the week with the Spelling Bee House Competition. The children were placed into their houses and enthusiastically took on the challenge of spelling a diverse range of words. It was a tight competition, but I'm thrilled to announce that Buckingham House emerged as the winners! Nevertheless, every house displayed fantastic effort and teamwork, with Balmoral, Sandringham, and Windsor securing joint second place. It was heartwarming to witness the support from both children and staff for their respective houses. Rehearsals for our much-anticipated Christmas productions are in full swing, and the excitement is palpable! Our Early Years students are eagerly preparing for their performance of 'Where's Santa' scheduled for next Thursday. We&#

U19 Netball 1st VII vs BISA

Image
DBS made history by hosting their first-ever U19 Netball Tournament for BISA. It was a fantastic event with around 40 senior girls taking part from three schools.  The U19 girls had a challenging morning as their games were back to back with little rest in between. The first match was against Shrewsbury. From the start the girls put in fantastic effort, demonstrating grit and determination throughout.  They scored the first goal of the match, giving us a 1-0 lead in the first few minutes. However, an overturned ball from Shrewsbury meant they ended the quarter slightly ahead of us. This then meant the girls were chasing down Shrewsbury's score for the remainder of the match. Our defence showed excellent skill, applying pressure on shooters and getting the ball out of the circle.  The girls worked hard to move the ball down the court and managed good feeds into the circle. It was a close game throughout and the match finished with Shrewsbury winning 10-6. Since we last played Shrews
