Dragonfly Class

Image
This was a busy week for our Dragonflies as we learned all about our earth through time and sustainability during STEAM Week. The children were thrilled to kickstart the week with science experiments at our Pre Prep assembly and gained valuable knowledge about plastic consumption and recycling at the Trash Lucky presentation. In maths the children demonstrated their mastery of 3D shapes and had several "wow moments" during our maths talks. In Talk4Write, we carried on with our Farmer Duck story map, laughing as we repeated "how goes the work? Quack!" during our retell. We are thoroughly enjoying this story and are eagerly awaiting our field trip to the farm.

Headmaster's message 15th March 2024

Dear Parents and Guardians, We come to the end of a fantastic week at DBS. Yesterday we had our Year 3 and 4 production which I heard was fantastic but unfortunately was unable to attend due to other commitments. Last night we also welcomed students from the Beaumont Ruam Pattana School to our campus for games on our sports facilities followed by dinner. Today we held our eco-conference. I was blown away by the quality of our student speakers and the way that they could fluently talk about a range of complex environmental themes. For me it was a demonstration of the pillars we base our education on. Our students demonstrated academic excellence, Entrepreneurship, Wellbeing and Sustainability and Thai values in a global context and the music demonstrated the strength of our Enhanced British Curriculum. Well done to all of our students and staff who were involved in the planning and deliver of this event. Tomorrow morning we have an early start for the Pancake run. This is not how I usua

Head of Senior School's Message - STEAM dominants future careers

Image
In an era where innovation and interdisciplinary skills reign supreme, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education has emerged as a beacon of success, preparing students for the dynamic and ever-evolving careers of the future. As we reflect on the recent STEAM Week, it becomes evident how this holistic approach to learning not only dominates the predicted careers market but also fosters a culture of innovation and sustainability. At the heart of STEAM Week were the dedicated efforts of our Mathematics and Computer Science faculty. Their commitment to nurturing young minds in the realms of logic, problem-solving, and computational thinking laid the foundation for success in diverse career paths. As we celebrated Pi Day during the week, it served as a poignant reminder of the significance of mathematical concepts in our daily lives and future endeavours. Gratitude is also owed to Dr. Eakkachai, Chair of the Department for Industrial Engineering at Mahidol

Head of Prep's Message

Image
Dear DBS Prep Parents and Guardians, Yesterday, we were taken on a magical mystery tour by our Year 3&4 students in their production, 'A Day in the Life'. The show was inspired by the music of The Beatles, and the vast array of activities we enjoy in a DBS school year. Every class took to the stage to share a scene and a Beatles song, accompanied by our superb staff band. The show felt like an incredible journey with some beautiful messages of courage, embracing challenges, working together, being open to learning and having fun! They ended the show with a united performance of one of my favourite songs, 'All You Need is Love,' underneath a surprise balloon shower and rapturous applause!! Congratulations to all the students, and thank you to the team of staff who enabled it to happen, and also to the parents for being a wonderful audience! This week, we celebrated STEAM week, thinking about how science, art, technology and maths enrich our lives. Students in Years

Head of Pre-Prep's Message

Image
We've had an absolutely fantastic STEAM week filled with captivating activities that have ignited curiosity and creativity in our young learners.  Our week kicked off with an awe-inspiring assembly led by Katie McMillan. The theme centred around 'Time', and Katie wowed the children with a range of experiments. From balloon races powered by different methods to the grand finale of 'elephant toothpaste', where a chemical reaction created a foamy explosion, the children were utterly captivated. Their reactions were priceless, ranging from wide-eyed wonder to infectious laughter! This week, we welcomed Bangkok Soap Opera to our Pre-Prep, offering our children hands-on experience in soap making. The delightful scents wafting through the department were evidence of the joyous exploration happening within. We hope your children enjoyed crafting their own soaps and sharing this experience with you at home. A heartfelt thank you to the parents of our Nursery and Reception

Y1-2 Soap Making Workshops

Image
Year 1 and 2 have had an eventful time this week, as ‘Soap Opera Bangkok’ came to deliver a workshop for them as part of our STEAM week. Following the theme of ‘sustainability’ children in Years 1 and 2 learned all about the soap making process and had the opportunity to make their own bars of organic soap! The children had so many options to choose from for their powder base, essential oil for the scent and decorations for their soap bars. View Year 1 Gallery View Year 2 Gallery

DBS Students and staff celebrate the 14th March or Pi Day in style!

Image
Mr Sharma and Mr Hackett both organised a day of celebration of all things Mathematics and Pi Year 7 and Year 8 students had a highly contested Maths relay challenge and senior students have been cracking codes based on challenge questions given throughout the week. Finally, a special mention to Puth in Year 8 for being able to recite an incredible 204 digits of Pi, although he has some way to go to challenge the world record which stands at 70,000 digits. 😱

A fantastic start for Under 15 Badminton

Image
It was Denla's inaugural Badminton match and the pupils had a fantastic experience in their first ever match.  With some excellent quality on display, the boys found the first round of matches difficult but gained valuable experience in coming up against better players.  The Girls however won the match like "ducks to water" achieving some excellent results in both Singles and doubles. The game was played in both a friendly but competitive nature and overall I believe all pupils gained a lot of benefit from this match. A fantastic start for Under 15 Badminton View Gallery

Thank you, Mr. McCaul, for creating the giant Origami Crane for the Year 9C Japan project

Image
We all witnessed a fantastic and memorable event during the 2024 DBS International Day before the mid-term break, organised by Mr. Apter.  Year 9C students celebrated Japan as their representative country. Year 9 students began to brainstorm ideas on how they could influence and engage the DBS community to share their enthusiasm for Japanese cultural knowledge during their preparation sessions. On the remembrance day, I shared  Sadako's story along with a peace message. Sadako, born in Hiroshima, attempted to create 1000 cranes with wishes for world peace. Inspired by Sadako's story, Year 9 students decided to create something meaningful with cranes. Mr. McCaul kindly offered to create a giant crane using solid materials as a beautiful art project. The Giant Crane was displayed in the foyer of D4 during the International Day event, and it was a collaborative effort involving Year 9C students  in its artistic decoration. The members of the Crane team were Teddy, Charming, Arin,

Hedgehog Class

Image
Hedgehog Class It was an amazing start to STEAM week. Hedgehogs watched in awe as we explored the concept of time. We learnt how sometimes time can 'feel' short or long and how this can also depend on what activity we are doing.  During the week we also had the opportunity to create our own soap! We learnt about the components of soap and how to correctly create the mixture. I am very proud of them all, they all listened to instructions well, complimented each others creations and showed politeness to our fantastic instructor.  In science, we have been continuing our learning about light and dark. To explore the concept of light sources further, we worked as a team to create a den! We questioned why will could still see even though we tried to block out the light sources.   In maths, we made an excellent start to learning about mass. We have been using scales to help us learn how to read them correctly.  Their creativity and team work has shone bright this week!

Diversity Week is almost here!
