Headmaster's message 1st December 2023

Image
Dear Parents and Guardians, This was the week where we felt the Christmas spirit at DBS with some wonderful performances including the fantastic Mindy and the turning on of out Christmas tree lights. It was also wonderful to celebrate Loy Kratong on Monday and lovely to see our students in traditional dress. We had an excellent turnout for our workshop on scholarships this week and we are very excited to launch this new framework going forward. It has certainly been a busy term so far for our students and the long weekend will be a welcome rest which will help them to recharge and be ready for the last 2 weeks. Wishing you all a pleasant long weekend. Best wishes, Jonny Liddell Headmaster

Deputy Headmaster's Message - Celebrating Thai Traditions

Image
Dear Parents and Guardians, This period in the year marks a special time in our calendar with the celebration of two significant holidays: Loy Krathong and Father's Day. Both these occasions offer us a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the deep-rooted traditions and values that are integral to our community. This past Monday, we observed Loy Krathong, with a wonderful day where the entire community celebrated the occasion by wearing traditional clothing (with the school looking much like a scene from the TV show 'Love Destiny'!) and making krathongs, led by our Thai Department. Loy Krathong is much more than just the captivating sight of krathongs floating on water; it is a time for us to come together and give thanks. This festival is a poignant reminder of our connection to nature and the importance of conserving our precious natural resources. It instils in us and our students a sense of responsibility towards the environment, reinforcing the ideals of sustainability

Navigating the Digital World: The Crucial Role of Monitoring Children's Online Conduct In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, children are increasingly connected to the online world. For parents and teachers, ensuring the safety and proper conduct of their youngsters in the digital realm is of paramount importance. The Digital Playground: The internet, with its vast array of information and entertainment, serves as a double-edged sword for our children. While it provides valuable educational resources and opportunities for social interaction, it also exposes them to potential risks and inappropriate content. Importantly, students may not always comprehend the interconnection between their online and real-life identities, leading to the creation of alter egos that can have lasting consequences. During Years 9 to 13, children undergo significant cognitive and emotional development. They are more likely to explore the digital world independently, engaging in social media

Head of Prep's Message

Dear DBS Prep Parents and Guardians, After an exciting week of residential adventures, the students returned with good focus and commitment for their end-of-term assessments. The smooth conduct of our end-of-term assessments is a collaborative achievement - thanks to the collective support of our teachers, learning assistants and your unwavering encouragement at home. We commend our students for their hard work and efforts during this essential evaluation of their learning and progress across Term 1. On Monday, we enjoyed a wonderful Loy Krathong celebration. Everybody looked fantastic, and the school was decorated beautifully for this colourful occasion. This year, we discussed the importance of preserving our water supplies as we pay thanks. Some students created beautiful posters to portray the vibrancy of Loy Krathong whilst giving a clear message about how we can save water and promote sustainable practices in our daily lives. Thank you to the Thai department for their hard work

I would like to begin by thanking  all the parents of Nursery and Reception children who attended the recent Parent-Teacher meetings. Your involvement and support are invaluable, and we appreciate your commitment to your child's education and development.  This week has been an absolute delight as we witnessed the wonderful talents of our Year 1 and 2 children who took the stage in the Araya Hall to perform 'Penguins Save Christmas World.' The children were absolutely fantastic, showcasing their talents and spreading the joyous Christmas spirit. A huge thank you to all the parents for providing such incredible costumes and for gracing the event with your presence. Your support and encouragement truly make these moments memorable for our little stars. Following the heartwarming performance, our DBS Christmas Tree lighting ceremony further enhanced the festive cheer. It was a magical sight, witnessing the joy on everyone's faces as we lit up the tree and embraced the holi

Year 1 and 2 Christmas Show

Image
This year, the Year 1 and 2 children were transported to Christmas World where there was a big problem...there was NO SNOW! There had never been a Christmas with no snow before, so the helpful penguins set out on a mission to help find the missing snowflakes. On their way they met so many Christmas characters who tried to help. In the end the snowflakes agreed to visit Christmas World but only if everyone tried a little bit harder to help the environment. Well done Year 1 and 2 on an amazing show!

What a fabulous week of celebrations we have had, with both Loy Krathong and our Christmas Performance! The children have been wonderful this week considering we have often been off timetable. But the lessons we have completed they have all still worked really hard. The children should be so proud of their first try at writing some parts of The Storm Whale. We also had a smell and taste test in our science lesson this week to help us continue to investigate our different senses! Well done to everybody and I hope you all enjoy your long weekend!
