Headmaster's message Friday 1st march 2024

Dear Parents and Guardians, I hope your children have had a good week at DBS. In Prep-Prep this week it was creative curriculum week and after some learning about space, our Year 1 and 2 students went on an exciting visit to the Bangkok Planetarium. In our Prep Assembly this week, Our Year 5 students staged a peaceful 'protest' to highlight what the have learned about their persuasive writing unit on sustainability. All Year 5 students wrote an extremely well structured email to members of the Senior Leadership Team about ideas for improving sustainability here at DBS. The quality of their writing was fantastic and they had many ideas that we can take on board. Today as part of the assembly, they spoke eloquently to the other Prep students about their ideas. Tomorrow, we will host our Thai university fair with representatives from 16 universities as well as workshops for students and parents. We encourage all to attend. Please see the email that went out about registering but i

Curiosity

Image
In the pursuit of academic excellence, one trait stands out as a beacon guiding students toward the right university and the right course – curiosity. A curious mind is an active mind, constantly seeking knowledge, embracing challenges, and engaging in a lifelong learning journey. As we are about to host our University Fair I would like to emphasise the importance of fostering curiosity in our students. Curiosity goes beyond mere academic inquisitiveness; it is the key that unlocks the door to self-discovery and personal growth. When students are naturally curious, they not only excel in their studies but also develop a keen awareness of their interests and passions. This awareness becomes particularly crucial when it comes to making decisions about higher education. University applications are pivotal moments in a student's life, and a curious mind is well-prepared to navigate this significant juncture. The right university and course selection requires thoughtful consideration of

Head of Prep School's Message

Image
Dear DBS Prep Parents and Guardians, We're excited to be back at school after a rejuvenating half-term break. The students have returned, brimming with energy and enthusiasm. We're excited about the many events lined up in the coming weeks, which we've been busy preparing for. One such event is the Year 3&4 students' production, just a few weeks away. The melodic sounds of their rehearsals have been echoing through the floor 5 corridor, promising a memorable show. We look forward to seeing many of you there! Today, the Prep School assembly was transformed by the Year 5 students' impactful initiative. They led a peaceful protest, highlighting environmental issues and advocating for improved sustainability efforts within our school. Their persuasive letters to the Senior Leadership Team were not only well-crafted but also offered practical suggestions for reducing waste and saving energy. This has led to tangible changes, such as increased recycling bins and a f

Head of Pre-Prep's Message

Welcome back after what I  hope was a fantastic and restful February half term break. It has been wonderful to see our Pre-Prep children return refreshed and eager to dive into more adventures in learning. This week, our Year 1 and 2 children embarked on a thrilling journey through space during Creative Curriculum. A spaceman paid a visit during their assembly, igniting their imaginations and curiosity. From exploring life here on planet Earth to unravelling the mysteries of our solar system, including the revelation that our sun is indeed a star, and delving into the historic first moon landing, our young astronauts-in-training have been on an exciting voyage of discovery! Additionally, the children have also been busy investigating shadows and designing their very own planets. They enthusiastically pondered questions such as: What would their planet look like? What adventures await on its surface? How would life thrive in such a unique environment? The creativity and ingenuity disp

Year 5 Presentation at Prep Assembly

Image
Year 5 staged a Climate Protest! They politely interrupted the Prep School Assembly with some important messages about work they have been doing to make DBS more sustainable and eco friendly.  In English, they have researched four key environmental issues and written to the Senior Leadership team with their ideas on how our school could improve its paper recycling facilities and reduce single use plastic, food waste and also clothing waste.  Happily our Senior Leadership team was very supportive and have made some changes! Year 5 shared these exciting new developments with the Prep School and will keep working to make sure DBS is as green as it can be! Watch this space to see what they do next!  They will be speaking at our Eco Conference soon. View Gallery

Y1-2 Trip to Planetarium

Image
Year 1 and 2 embarked on their second creative curriculum week; this time with a focus on History. Using the theme of space, they have travelled through the milky way galaxy learning all about astronauts, space travel and the planets in our solar system.  Over the week, they have learnt about the first moon landing and had a go at creating a news broadcast for this; how astronauts live in the International Space Station and some of the challenges they face up there.  To celebrate the week, children went on a trip to the Bangkok Planetarium, where they got to see some space artefacts up close as well as enjoy a show in the Planetarium, where they felt like they were in space. Children saw how the stars form different constellations and what the inside of the sun looks like!

Students were inspired by the trip to start planning for their future finances and investments. They learnt about the history of the capital market, financial products and investment methods. Parents were recently welcomed to our Pre-Prep Parent session. It was a delightful opportunity for them to immerse themselves in their child's early learning journey and witness the nurturing environment our school provides. Parents had the chance to engage with teachers and early childhood educators, fostering valuable discussions on how we can collectively support our little ones in their developmental milestones and educational endeavours. Colours Everywhere - Sunflower Class 🌻

Image
Welcome back after the half term.  Thank you to those families who have shared photos and videos of what the children did over the holiday and where they visited.  The children love looking at each others photos so we would be very happy if anyone else would like to share their photos on Tapestry.   Looking at these photos with the class is such a great opportunity to support the development of the children’s personal and social skills as well as their language skills. This week our focus has been on colour and the children have been really enjoying singing songs about colour and exploring colour in all areas of their play and in the environment.  Lunchtime has proved to be a great time to talk about colour and it is wonderful to hear the children using so much English vocabulary!   On Friday, we were very excited to be able to take a couple of groups of children out on the Mini Dragons bike for the first time.  Miss Taryna rode the bike and Miss O accompanied children in the carriag

Foxes

Image
The Foxes have had a fantastic first week back! This week we've been learning all about space as part of our Creative Curriculum Week. We have learned about astronauts and the training and challenges they face in space. We have learned about the sun and investigated how shadows are formed and how they can change throughout the day or through the movement of the light source. After carrying out some research into the many questions we had about space, we learned a little bit about the moon and having been inspired by the 'Man on the Moon' story, we designed and created our own Moon Buggies!
