Bumblebee Class

Image
Happy diversity week! This week the bumblebees have been busy discussing all the ways that we are different and unique. We have engaged in lots of activities to celebrate these differences. We made friendship banners, wrote about all the things we loved, created self-portraits, and read lots of storybooks celebrating diversity.  In writing, we innovated the story of Farmer Duck. We tried to make the stories as silly as possible and used lots of adjectives to describe the new characters. In maths, we have been exploring numbers 11 to 15! We have been using lots of different resources to make, partition, and subtise these numbers. We also had lots of fun moving the seeds we already planted into a pot with soil. We took so much care to carefully move them over and will continue to care for them by giving them water and lots of love!

Headmaster's message 22nd March 2024

Dear Parents and Guardians, We are still buzzing from the wonderful events of last week which culminated in over 300 people taking part in our first ever pancake run. This week has been a much quieter week on campus except for yesterday where we held our first ever dance competition with several schools participating. This week we held our scholars brunch for our first round of Academic Scholars where we outlined the benefits and responsibilities of being a scholar as well presented them with their scholars' reading list and scholarship certificates. Our expectation is that our scholars will help to boost the achievement of all students by taking a lead in learning activities and supporting their peers. I write to you this week from Vietnam where I am attending the FOBISIA Heads Meeting. It has been a productive meeting which has reaffirmed the benefits of our membership with regard to student opportunities, safeguarding and staff training and development. As we approach the last t

Deputy Headmaster's Message - Diversity Week

Image
Dear Parents and Guardians, As you will hopefully be aware, this week at DBS we celebrated our annual Diversity Week. This gives us the opportunity to celebrate how diverse we are as humans and ensure that we are as inclusive as possible. This started with the Diversity Badge competition, from which we picked 3 winners. Our teachers and students are proudly wearing these badges and if you or your child would like to wear one then all we ask is for a minimum 50B donation to charity. Over the course of the week, our Diversity Team delivered sessions on Neurodiversity, LGBTQ+, Customs and Ethnicity, Religions and Beliefs and Gender Equality. Each session carried a message that was both powerful and positive and, hopefully, one that the students will carry with them. Each day also had a lunchtime activity for the students to participate in which were not only educational, but a lot of fun. The aim of the was not just to celebrate diversity, but also to remind each and every one of us that

Head of Senior Message - why do we celebrate diversity?

Image
In a world with differing cultures, traditions, and perspectives, diversity stands as a beacon of strength and unity. Its significance goes beyond borders and generations, enriching our lives with a different experiences and insights. Diversity week, an annual event at the heart of our school's ethos, unfolded as we explored the world from the perspective of others. It was incredible to watch the whole school community come together to discuss differences. The success of diversity week lay not only in its festivities but also in its profound message: that the strength of our school lies in its diverse community. Throughout the week, students and staff had the opportunity to share their unique backgrounds and experiences, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the rich tapestry of cultures that coexist within our halls. Beyond its inherent value, the celebration of diversity holds profound implications for our educational community. It serves as a catalyst for growt

Head of Prep's Message

Dear DBS Prep Parents and Guardians, I am delighted to share the events of our Diversity Week, a celebration of the cultures, beliefs, and identities within our school community and worldwide. Throughout the week, we have embarked on a journey of exploration and understanding, with daily presentations focusing on vital themes of culture and ethnicity, LGBTQ+, religion and beliefs, neurodiversity, and gender equality. These sessions have enabled great discussion across the school and promoted empathy and acceptance among our students. One of the highlights of Diversity Week has been the widespread support shown by wearing the DBS diversity badges thoughtfully designed by our students. These badges serve as a visible symbol of our commitment to inclusivity and respect for all. There has also been a range of activities across the school that have provided invaluable opportunities for students to engage with these important topics in a meaningful and hands-on manner. Diversity Week is a

Head of Pre-Prep's Message

This week, the Pre-Prep leadership team has dedicated time to personally listen to the children read during their 1:1 reading sessions. We believe that by actively engaging with your children in this way, we gain valuable insights into their progress and can better tailor our support to meet their individual needs.  We take great pride in our commitment to nurturing a love for reading from the very beginning of your child's educational journey. Our dedicated class teachers and Learning Assistants  listen to the children read on a 1:1 basis each week, closely monitoring their reading progress. We firmly believe that this personalised approach allows us to provide targeted support and encouragement, ensuring that every child reaches their full potential. We would like to remind parents of our expectations regarding reading at home. Each child is encouraged to take their school reading book home every evening and share it with family members. We believe that this shared reading expe

U15 Football Girls vs SHR

Image
We played a good game against Shrewsbury and unfortunately came out on the losing side, many of our goals conceded could have been avoided and with some more training to cut out the silly mistakes we will look to be better in the defensive area of the pitch.  We had some really good chances to score which should have been put away and the girls are still getting used to playing with offsides. Despite this, the girls thoroughly enjoyed themselves playing against some friends from Shrewsbury and wanted to continue playing even after the match ended. Views Gallery

There were solo acts and band performances, but everyone came together for Diversity Week Buskers' Corner. Also included was a moving rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine” - with the staff band rocking out, and the Chamber Choir echoing harmonies from around the Senior Dining Hall. 🎶
