Headmaster's message 3rd November 2023

Dear Parents and Guardians, This week I write to you from Kuala Lumpur where I am attending the FOBISIA Heads Business Meeting and the FOBISIA Leadership Conference. It is useful to find out about the many amazing opportunities that being a member of this federation provides for our students in competitions and also for our staff with excellent opportunities for professional development. One common theme from conversations with other heads at the conference was how challenging recruitment is becoming due to significant teacher shortages, particularly in Maths, Science and Computing. This is an area where we have been proactive and we have got to the job market early recruiting high quality candidates for Maths and Computing. I will also fly to London in two weeks for the first of our main recruitment rounds. This week it was wonderful to see so many of our parents come on the the campus for our Halloween celebrations. Some of the costumes were fantastic. As Obi-wan Kenobi, I was delig

Deputy Headmaster's Message - Sustainability

Image
Dear Parents and Guardians, On Monday, Mr Dunphy led the Senior assembly on the topic of Sustainability. At DBS we value the importance of instilling in our students the principles of sustainability, ensuring that they understand the significance of their actions on the planet and recognise the power they hold as individuals to effect change. Sustainability is about meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. It is a concept that resonates globally and touches us all deeply, especially for our teachers who know that they are educating the generation that will inherit the planet (and its problems). In the heart of our curriculum, school culture and Eco-Schools ASA, we endeavour to instil in our students a sense of responsibility for the planet and empower them to make sustainable choices in their daily lives. The United Nations 17 Goals for Sustainable Development (SDGs) serve as a blueprint for achieving a better and more sustainable fut

Head of Senior School's Message

Image
In the ever-evolving landscape of education, the spirit of progress and the pursuit of excellence form the heart of a school's mission. For DBS, this commitment to personal and institutional growth is not merely a motto but a living reality. As we proudly embrace our motto, "Always to Greater Things," it's worth celebrating an astonishing achievement that directly reflects this commitment. In recent job postings at DBS, we have received an average of just under 80 applications for every available position and there is still one week left until the applications close. This is an extraordinary testament to the growth of our school's international reputation and appeal. The fact that we are inundated with applications for every job opportunity underscores the strong belief in DBS as a place of educational innovation and growth. We stand committed to continuous improvement, ensuring that our students and staff have the resources and support needed to reach "Great

HEAD OF PREP'S MESSAGE

Dear DBS Prep Parents, We were thrilled to witness the tremendous turnout for our first-ever DBS Halloween celebration this past Tuesday. The costumes displayed by our students were nothing short of spectacular, and our 'creepy courtyard' served as the perfect backdrop for this fantastic community event. It was wonderful to see so many of you join in the festivities, and we hope that this tradition will continue to thrive in the years to come. On Wednesday, we hosted a Parent Workshop focused on our Mandarin and Japanese language programs here at DBS. Mr. Liu and Sensei, our dedicated language educators, provided insights into our curriculum, teaching methodologies, and how we prepare our students for future language exams. The session was not just informative but also interactive, as parents had the opportunity to engage in language games, offering a fun glimpse into how our students are honing their language skills. We understand that learning languages can be both academic

Head of Pre-Prep's Message

Dear Pre-Prep Parents, I want to express my gratitude for your enthusiastic participation and for providing Halloween costumes for your children on Tuesday. As we move forward, I'd like to share some important information about upcoming events in our Pre-Prep community. Next Wednesday, November 8th, we have a Behaviour Workshop planned for the parents of Mini Dragons. This workshop aims to provide valuable insights and strategies to better understand how young children communicate through their behaviour. It promises to be an informative and supportive session for all who attend. Additionally, we're thrilled to announce our "Family Time" event for all Pre-Prep parents. Please keep an eye out for posters that your child's class teacher has shared, which will provide you with more detailed information about the timings and activities for these events. Family Time offers a wonderful opportunity for you to share in your child's learning experiences, visit their cl

Mandarin and Japanese Parent Workshop

The Mandarin and Japanese parents' information workshop successfully conveyed key ideas about how language is developed at DBS, from Pre-Prep to Senior School. Not only do students learn the language, but they also engage directly with the culture as an integral part of their education at DBS.

U11 Girls Football vs Shrewsbury

Image
Our U11 girls' football team faced a strong Shrewsbury City team on an exceptionally hot day. The girls played outstandingly, working together as a team for both defense and attack and never giving up on the ball. They scored a beautiful team goal, stringing together a few passes before a fantastic finish. The girls have won every single game this season, and we're looking forward to a challenging tournament this weekend. Well done, girls! View Gallery
