Headmaster's message Firday 17th May

Image
Dear Parents and Guardians, It was a pleasure last weekend for me to attend the BISA touch rugby tournament which we were hosting at DBS. Our young athletes dominated both the U9 and U11 divisions. We won the U9 tournament and came top of our league in U11 although the final could not proceed due to the heat. We will be playing the final against Shrewsbury the week after next at Shrewsbury. Good luck to our U11 team! We continue to rack up an impressive number of BISA tournament wins. This week was Mental Health Awareness week with a range of activities throughout the week on developing positive mental health. This is a hugely important area of focus given the global increase in mental health issues which have particularly affected Gen Z and are likely to continue to affect Gen Alpha unless societies change course. This week we had open classrooms in Prep where parents had the opportunity to see the learning that takes place. We hope that parents found this valuable and that it helped

Deputy Headmaster's Message - Mental Health Awareness Week

Image
Dear Parents and Guardians, This week in the Prep and Senior Schools, we ran a series of tutor led sessions on the topic of Mental Health Awareness, using presentations created by Miss Rubani, the school Counsellor, and Mr Orton, the Deputy Head of Prep. Mental health is a topic close to our hearts, and the observance of this week serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of prioritizing the well-being of our students, staff, and families. This year, our focus was on destigmatising mental health, addressing burnout, and reducing the excessive use of digital devices – all important aspects of nurturing positive mental health. We recognise that mental health is a topic that is often shrouded in stigma and silence, and one of our key objectives was to create an open and supportive environment where individuals feel comfortable discussing their mental health concerns without fear of judgment or shame. In addition to addressing stigma, we also explored the concept of burnout – an issu

Head of Senior Message - Teenagers and exams

Image
Parenting teenagers can feel like navigating uncharted waters without a compass. The teenage years are a time of profound change, both for the adolescents experiencing them and for the parents guiding them. As teenagers strive for independence, they encounter numerous stressors, not least of which is the pressure of academic exams. These years can be particularly challenging for parents, as they must balance support and discipline, often without a clear manual to follow. The Complexity of Parenting Teens Raising teenagers is complex for several reasons. Adolescents are developing their identities, testing boundaries, and seeking autonomy. This process can lead to conflict as parents and teens negotiate the shifting dynamics of their relationship. Additionally, the academic demands placed on teens today are substantial, with exams serving as significant sources of stress. The Role of Boundaries Clear and agreed-upon boundaries are essential in parenting teenagers. These boundaries provi

Head of Prep's Message

Dear DBS Prep Parents, Today marked the end of Mental Health Awareness Week, which has been a fantastic opportunity to think about how we can all support the well-being of ourselves and others. Students have engaged in some thoughtful activities, one of which was undercover! On Monday, students were tasked with being a secret angel for someone else in their class or form for the whole week, thinking of ways that they could brighten their day and how this, in turn, made them feel. We know that doing things for others is one of the best ways to find happiness in ourselves but sometimes we can get lost in the busyness of life. Having the focus to do small things to help others seems to have given our students the chance to spread some joy and kindness across the Prep School. It was fantastic to see so many of our parents visiting the classrooms during our Y3-6 Open Classroom this week. Sharing the learning with parents demonstrates its value to the students, keeps motivation and engagemen

I would like to say thank you to all the parents who attended the parent workshop led by Dr. Yui from the Thonglor Dental Hospital this week. It was wonderful to see so many of you there, and I hope you found the session both informative and helpful. Dr. Yui focused on dental hygiene, sharing valuable tips and tricks for encouraging our children to brush their teeth regularly. She also discussed the importance of certain foods and drinks in supporting healthy teeth and gums. At DBS, we prioritise supporting parents in all aspects of their children’s lives, both academically and in their physical health. Following the workshop, Dr. Yui had an engaging session with our Nursery and Reception children in their classrooms. The children had a fantastic time learning about teeth and how to take good care of them. Their excitement was palpable as they discovered fun ways to maintain their dental health. On Wednesday, we had the pleasure of hosting prospective parents for small tours of the P

Students had the opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings on our Mental Health Board, creating a tapestry of support, understanding, and positivity.  Remember, every voice matters and every thought counts. Let's continue to support each other and promote mental health awareness every day. 💚

It was fantastic to see so many of our parents visiting the classrooms during our Y3-6 Open Classroom this week.  Sharing the learning with parents demonstrates its value to the students, keeps motivation and engagement high. It also provides an opportunity for parents to see our learning environments, meet each other and speak with the teaching staff. We would like to thank our Y3-6 parent community for attending.

Remaining undefeated, the U9’s proudly lifted the trophy, with our U11’s sharing the win with Shrewsbury.  A massive well-done to all who took part.  View Gallery
