Head of Prep's Message

Dear DBS Prep School Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to Term 3! This week, we launched our next puzzle piece in our Jigsaw Program, our PSHE curriculum for all Prep students. The name of this puzzle piece is Relationships. In our assemblies, we discussed the importance of building a respectful relationship with ourselves and being aware of negative aspects of relationships that can affect our wellbeing. In their lessons this term, the students will cover topics such as families, friendships, pets and animals and love and loss. A vital part of this unit is about safeguarding and keeping children safe - students learn how to deal with conflict, build assertiveness, and identify their strengths and strategies for building self-esteem and resilience. A film that was discussed in our assembly for Y3-5 students was Inside Out 2, which is released in cinemas in June across Thailand. It's worth considering for a visit as it's all about getting to know our emotions and balancing them as we grow older. It's a perfect fit with our PSHE learning!

Our Prep music scholars shared some exceptional performances at our Music Scholars' Recital this week. The range of music on offer was stunning - all the way from Chopin and Paganini to Billy Joel and Missy Elliot. Our performers were a fantastic reflection of the talent that we are so lucky to have at DBS, and it is impossible not to reflect on the hours and hours of practice that have led to a bravura display of technique, musicality and confidence. A huge well done to all our performers - we can't wait to see them in action again in the future.

Today, we concluded a fantastic book week in a wonderful range of dress-up outfits reflecting heroes and villains from literature. Throughout the week, we enjoyed some peaceful disruptions to the school day, where we all had the chance to 'Drop Everything and Read'. This morning, the whole school gathered to enjoy our annual 'The Voice' house competition, during which the book theme influenced the song choices. It was absolutely superb, and congratulations to all the performers. Windsor House secured victory in the hotly contested House Shout, and Matoom took the solo trophy for Buckingham House in a very close solo contest.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend, and good luck to our U9 and U11 teams competing in the BISA netball tournaments.

Very best wishes,
Mary Bridges
