Fun Sushi Cooking Lesson

Do you like sushi? Can you guess how many Japanese restaurants exist in Thailand? According to the Japanese External Trade Organisation (JETRO), there are 5,325 Japanese restaurants in Thailand this year, and it is expected to increase further in the future. Japanese food is well-known for being healthy worldwide.
Japanese is a brand new subject for students at DBS since August of last year. Given the strong and trusted friendships that Thailand and international countries have established with Japan and its people, it is important to enhance knowledge and skills in DBS students as they prepare to become global future leaders.
Year 7, 8, 9, and 10 students welcomed their new learning skills to become sushi chefs in our shiny D5 kitchen.
Initially, students researched sushi before their cooking class to develop a deeper understanding of detailed information about sushi. Students successfully expanded their understanding, identifying reasons why sushi is popular, its health benefits, the history of sushi, and how global warming concerns impact our food chain.
Students found it useful to acquire the skill of making sushi, specifically makizushi (rolled sushi). There were kanikama (imitation crab), cucumber, Tsukamono (Japanese pickles), rolled eggs and tuna inside. It was おいしい (Oishii= Delicious).
Well done for Sushi Master Chefs.
