Head of Prep's Message

Dear DBS Prep Parents and Guardians,

It has been a fantastic return to school this week and a very positive start to 2024. The new year brings new opportunities and Mr Orton led an inspiring assembly about Dreams and Goals to launch our new Jigsaw puzzle piece. In this topic, the students will work to identify their passions and set practical goals for themselves. Emphasising perseverance, the curriculum teaches that challenges are part of the journey. Students learn to view failure as a learning opportunity, developing a growth mindset. The program also includes lessons on resilience, attitudes, and future careers. We look forward to hearing about our students' Dreams and Goals. We encourage them to dream big and aim high in 2024 and beyond!

Before the students returned to campus on Tuesday, our staff engaged in a very productive training day on Monday at DBS. Class teachers from Years 3-6 enjoyed a basketball coaching session led by one of our basketball coaches, Coach Samson, a professional player in the Thailand basketball league. This practical session was a physical and inspiring start to the new term, and our teachers are looking forward to a great basketball season in Games lessons, extracurricular activities, matches and tournaments. Our teachers and LAs also participated in sessions about new approaches to teaching and assessing English, using AI in education, utilising assessment data to enhance teaching and learning, and using guided and independent practice to enhance high-quality learning. We were all inspired and excited to welcome the students back on Tuesday to put our training into action!

On behalf of the whole Prep team, we look forward to supporting your children throughout this important phase of the school year and sharing many memorable moments with you along the way. Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to DBS.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Very best wishes,
Mary Bridges
