 What a great week the Woodpeckers have had! They have thoroughly enjoyed our Creative Curriculum week all about space and behaved exceptionally well on our trip to the Science Centre. They children have created beautiful space scenes using oil pastels and were very creative when designing their own planet. They were particularly interested in learning about the first moon landing and what astronauts do. We discussed what it must be like to be an astronaut and the children decided what they would take with them if they were to go to space. Well done Woodpeckers on another fantastic week!

 The Daisies have loved being back at school with their friends after a lovely holiday! This week we have been reading lots of stories about colours.  Rainbows are one of our favourite things to talk about and explore so we have been singing lots of songs, looking at colours in our environment, playing iSpy, and much more! In the MD Garden, we have noticed that the changing season also changes our environment!  We love watching the leaves and flowers fall from the trees, and listen to the birds sing their song as they build a nest.  Next week we continue our exploration into colours as we read Elmer, Pete the Cat, the Mixed Up Chameleon, and more!

  Hedgehog class had an out of this world week! This week Hedgehogs learnt all about space and its history. Drawing inspiration from the fiction book, 'The Day in the Life of Bob,' we engaged in designing and constructing models of lunar rovers, learning about the function of wheels, axles, and chassis along the way. Our creations turned out amazing! Our visit to the Planetarium was fantastic; we were all captivated by the colorful visuals and real-life meteors. Back in class, we focused on perfecting the art of crafting shadows and shadow puppets, exploring various shapes and experimenting with different light sources. Additionally, we learned about the Wright Brothers, aviation pioneers credited with inventing and building the world's first successful airplane, and explored the profound impact they have had on modern-day travel and life.  Welcome back to the Butterflies! Thank you so much for sharing your holiday news with us. It is always lovely to see the children confidently speak in front of their friends about things that are important to you. The children amazed us with their independence, having a go at writing about their holidays too. In maths this week, the children have had lots of fun continuing their work on addition through purposful and fun hands on activities. We recapped our knowledge of number bonds to 10 and began to look at doubling numbers to find a total. Super work everyone! 

It is lovely to have the Jellyfish back in class unfortunately we still have some unwell friends. Fingers crossed that everyone is back next week and fighting fit. The children have been looking at the book 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' and engaging in lots of fun activities focusing on different aspects of the natural works from life cycles, to healthy eating, patterns, and symmetry. Thank you all for bringing the children in their lovely Cuban outfits, It was such a shame that the children were unable to take part in International Day, but hopeful we nearly made up for it today with our Cuban costumes and Latin beats dance party.

We have had a fantastic Creative Curriculum Week where the children have learnt all about space! Over the week, we have designed our own planets, made moon buggies and started making papier mache Earths! The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about space and getting creative with all of our activities. Also, in PE this week the children created their own games and then tested them out!  

This week in our classroom has been filled with exciting discoveries and learning adventures! Our students were thrilled to stumble upon a mysterious surprise: seeds and a letter left by none other than Farmer Duck. This intriguing find sparked a deep curiosity about the world of plants, prompting us to delve into discussions about how different plants grow and thrive. As we explored the essentials for plant growth, we also embarked on a delightful journey through the pages of 'Farmer Duck', realising the uncanny connection between the story and our classroom surprise. In mathematics, our focus has been on building strong foundations with number bonds, utilising numbers 1-9 to unlock the secrets of creating larger numbers. It's been a week of growth, discovery, and exciting connections in our classroom!

This week in the Tulip Class we focused on colours! There were lots of fun activities to practice like organizing colourful shells, colouring Rainbow Fish, and sorting colourful legos. We were able to see colours not just in the classroom but outside too - observing the green grass, yellow sand shovels, and red bikes. We read the book, Colors, by Phoebe McGuffee - exploring the different colours we could find in the book and then surrounding us. The Tulips also took their first ride on the Mini Dragons Bike. We had lots of fun riding around the front of the school after doing our helmet and seat belt checks.  -Miss Taryna, Mr. Gino, and Miss Pair

  It has been a lovely start to the half term with lots of outdoor learning showing our gross-motor progress in climbing, running, throwing and building. We were very excited to receive a letter this week from Farmer Duck containing some seeds for us to grow. Over the next few weeks we will be seeing if the seeds sprout before planting them in soil to see how big they can grow. This is part of our Talk for Write unit based on the story “Farmer Duck”. We have already had lots of talk about seeds and some of the children enjoyed writing a thank you to Farmer Duck for the seeds. In Maths we have been learning more about the number bonds to 10 and showed our understanding of how numbers can double using paint and paper butterfly wings. Our Jigsaw topic this term is ‘Healthy Me’ and this week we has fun showing why exercise is important for our bodies with lots of talk about making healthy choices.

 We have had a fantastic first week back with lots of fun learning. At the start of the week we looked through pictures of our holidays. The children spoke confidently about what they did and where they went. This was great for their language and communication development. We have started our new Talk 4 Write text ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and have been learning about the different foods the caterpillar eats. We have talked about healthy and unhealthy foods and why it is important to eat lots of fruit and vegetables to stay healthy. The children also made their own caterpillars out of tissue paper and watched the grow and wriggle just like a real one! We are excited to learn more about caterpillars and their life cycles next week. 

This week we were so excited to find out it was Bumblebee's turn to explore the new wood work area! I couldn't be prouder of the bumblebee ability to listen, assess risk and show resilience.  The wood work area allowed the Bumblebees to fully express their creativity and imagination. They were able to manipulate real life tools to make their ideas come to life. They hammered, drilled, glued and cut. Each creation was as unique as the other. It was clear the woodwork area put our hand-eye coordination, manipulative control, and fine motor skills to the test! As well as this the Bumblebee celebrated each other's creations, by asking questions to learn more and showing pride towards their peers.  What an amazing week. Well done Bumblebees!

  This week in the Dragonfly class was marked by a concentrated effort on mathematics, with a particular emphasis on number bonds and doubles. The children dedicated themselves to mastering their math facts, honing in on doubles up to 10. Alongside our mathematical pursuits, we embarked on our journey into our new Talk4Writing book, "Farmer Duck," sparking excitement and imagination among the students. Additionally, anticipation soared as we received the news of planting seeds and crafting our very own garden, adding a hands-on dimension to our learning experience.

  Welcome back everyone! We have had a lovely week back in Pufferfish class. We have enjoyed reading our new story of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar', and have created lots of artwork around it including caterpillars, apples and leaves. We have also started to learn lots about how to stay healthy, including learning about healthy and unhealthy foods and why exercise is important. We are learning lots of sounds in phonics and doing an amazing job! We also enjoyed having another 'mini international day' today. Well done Pufferfish. See you next week!

  Welcome back after the half term. Thank you to those families who have shared photos and videos of what the children did over the holiday and where they visited. The children love looking at each other's photos so we would be very happy if anyone else would like to share their photos on Tapestry. Looking at these photos with the class is such a great opportunity to support the development of the children’s personal and social skills as well as their language skills. This week our focus has been on colour and the children have been really enjoying singing songs about colour and exploring colour in all areas of their play and in the environment. Lunchtime has proved to be a great time to talk about colour and it is wonderful to hear the children using so much English vocabulary!   We have had lots of fun this week, especially celebrating our very own mini international day in Nursery! The children were excited to be in school in their Cuban costumes and we did some fun Cuban dancing together whilst learning about the country of Cuba. In phonics this week the children have shown exceptional memory skills, remembering many sounds that they have learnt before and also our new ones of the week “p” and “g”. We have had fun learning our new Talk4Write story “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and about cocoons and butterfly transformations which the children have found fascinating! Great learning this week everyone.

 Dear Parents and Guardians, Today was a day where I felt particularly proud of our school. It was wonderful to share with you the premier of our new school video. What a journey the school has had over the last 7 years. I hope, like me, you see DBS as your dream school Despite the logistical challenges we faced having to make adaptations due to the air quality, we had a very successful international day. Many parents commented to me that this year was much more relaxing with more indoor spaces available. The indoor parade was also much better for students and gave every student in the school an opportunity to be on the stage of the Araya Hall. We had more good news with BISA Volleyball last weekend with our U13 boys only losing 1 game and finishing 3rd in the tournament and our U13 Girls winning the tournament. We also got the results of our Mathematics Olympiad entries. 2 students qualified for the Cayley Olympiad and 4 got best in their year group. This week we also had two exce...

 Dear Parents and Guardians, Today marks one of the key events in the DBS calendar - International Day. The first meeting held for International Day was back in September, highlighting the incredible behind the scenes work carried out by Mr Apter, Mr Ang, Mr Gower, Mr Yau and the Facilities team. This was made even trickier with the high AQI readings this week, but the Academic and Admin teams were able to pull together and ensured that the day was as great as ever! I really hope you were able to make it today, as the day that was forced on us turned out to be one of the best International Days DBS has ever had! Having the parade in the Araya Hall was sensational, and all those who attended appeared to think the same. The activity booths were both well set up and well attended and there was a really positive feel to the day.   As another superb International Day draws to a close on the back of an incredible CNY celebration as well as an intense and rewarding Term 2a (the beginning of which many recognised the start of 2024), the theme of different cultures celebrating their wew years is at the forefront of my mind. The transition from one year to another serves as a powerful symbol of fresh starts and endless possibilities, fostering a sense of optimism and renewal among both educators and learners. In the educational context, these new years provide a natural point for reflection, encouraging students to assess their achievements, set new goals, and develop a growth mindset. It instils in them the importance of resilience and adaptability, crucial skills for navigating the challenges of the academic journey and beyond.   Dear DBS Prep Parents and Guardians, This week, we have ended the half-term in style! There has been much to celebrate, from stunning U13 girls' and boys' sporting performances at last weekend's BISA tournaments to two dazzling Performance Time concerts showcasing our Prep School musicians' dedication and hard work. Even the teachers and parents got stuck at last night's basketball match, which was electric! In addition, we were delighted to welcome Year 7 parents on Monday for an engaging online evening of feedback, fostering a strong connection between home and school. It was a valuable opportunity for parents to gain insights into their child's progress and for teachers and parents to work together to support the students.   As we approach the end of what has been an incredibly productive six-week term, I am filled with immense pride reflecting on the wonderful learning and growth I have witnessed in our little ones. It has been a joy to see our happy children engaging so enthusiastically with their education, and I want to thank all of our families for your continued support and partnership in your child's Pre-Prep journey. To celebrate the end of our Talk4Write focus story 'We're going on a bear hunt', Nursery have enjoyed acting out the different settings we have been learning about! The children enjoyed walking through long grass, sticky mud, a tall forest and a swirling, whirling snowstorm. At the end of their adventure, they found a bear in the cave! The children have demonstrated fantastic listening and attention skills by being able to recall and adapt the story. Well done bear hunters!

The Porpoise class embraced the spirit of love and friendship wholeheartedly this Valentine's Day, creating an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie that was truly heartwarming. From crafting heartfelt messages on the noticeboard to exchanging sweet treats, the students immersed themselves in various activities that celebrated kindness and compassion. It was delightful to witness their enthusiasm and creativity as they spread love throughout the classroom and school. Valentine's Day at DBS was a memorable and uplifting experience for all involved. Well done everyone for your participation and maturity!

It was wonderful to see some of the DBS parents joining in the weekly Monday football sessions that have been taking place every Monday since the start of the year. The DBS staff are training each week in preparation for an upcoming tournaments in Phuket and Bangkok in the coming months. The matches were played in good spirit and there was a great buzz of excitement and energy around the sports field, with spectators and DBS children cheering on. Many thanks to the parents that joined the session. We'll be continuing our weekly practices after the half-term break from 4:30 - 5:30pm every Monday. If you haven't joined yet parents, you're more than welcome to attend. In Term 3, we will also be looking to build on the fabulous Basketball matches that took place this week and replicate that with some fun Football games. Watch this space!
