Head of Prep's Message
Dear DBS Prep Parents and Guardians,
I am delighted to share the events of our Diversity Week, a celebration of the cultures, beliefs, and identities within our school community and worldwide. Throughout the week, we have embarked on a journey of exploration and understanding, with daily presentations focusing on vital themes of culture and ethnicity, LGBTQ+, religion and beliefs, neurodiversity, and gender equality. These sessions have enabled great discussion across the school and promoted empathy and acceptance among our students.
One of the highlights of Diversity Week has been the widespread support shown by wearing the DBS diversity badges thoughtfully designed by our students. These badges serve as a visible symbol of our commitment to inclusivity and respect for all. There has also been a range of activities across the school that have provided invaluable opportunities for students to engage with these important topics in a meaningful and hands-on manner.
Diversity Week is a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to create a safe and supportive environment for every community member. By embracing our differences and celebrating our shared humanity, we strengthen our community spirit and teach our children the values that will help to make the world a better place.
Throughout Term 2, our Year 8 students have been engaged in a Mini Enterprise project. This has involved generating a business idea and bringing it to life. The students have approached this project with commitment and creativity and achieved some superb results and profits! This was monitored by raising funds for Rainbow House. Through their creativity, innovation, and hard work, our students have demonstrated remarkable entrepreneurial spirit and a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
I am pleased to report that we have enjoyed a very positive visit from our UK-based board members to DBS over the last two weeks. They were thoroughly impressed by the outstanding teaching they observed across the Prep school. Their visit provided an excellent opportunity to showcase the expertise and dedication of our teaching staff, as well as the remarkable achievements of our students. Their positive feedback is a testament to the hard work and commitment of everyone in our school community, and I am confident that we will continue to excel in our pursuit of educational excellence.
I wish you all a wonderful weekend.
Very best wishes,
Mary Bridges
