Deputy Headmaster's Message - Celebrating Thai Traditions
Dear Parents and Guardians,
This period in the year marks a special time in our calendar with the celebration of two significant holidays: Loy Krathong and Father's Day. Both these occasions offer us a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the deep-rooted traditions and values that are integral to our community.
This past Monday, we observed Loy Krathong, with a wonderful day where the entire community celebrated the occasion by wearing traditional clothing (with the school looking much like a scene from the TV show 'Love Destiny'!) and making krathongs, led by our Thai Department. Loy Krathong is much more than just the captivating sight of krathongs floating on water; it is a time for us to come together and give thanks. This festival is a poignant reminder of our connection to nature and the importance of conserving our precious natural resources. It instils in us and our students a sense of responsibility towards the environment, reinforcing the ideals of sustainability and respect for nature that we hold dear at DBS.
Looking ahead, next Tuesday will be Father's Day, a day that holds a special place in the hearts of many of the DBS community. Father's Day in Thailand encourages us to recognise the dedication, love, and guidance that fathers and father figures provide. It's a day to express gratitude and respect, reinforcing the strong family values that are a cornerstone of our community.
In school, we strive to integrate these cultural values into our curriculum and daily activities. Understanding and participating in such cultural events enables our students to develop a profound respect for Thai heritage and traditions. It is also an essential part of our mission to nurture well-rounded individuals who appreciate and celebrate the rich diversity of cultures.
As we reflect on the significance of these holidays, let us use this time to engage in meaningful conversations with our children about the importance of cultural heritage, respect for the environment, and the value of family and community bonds.
Thank you for joining us in celebrating Loy Krathong this week. We look forward to continuing to foster a sense of cultural awareness and appreciation within our school community.
Thank you for reading and have a safe and restful weekend,
Simon Fowler
