Head of Prep's Message
Dear Prep School Parents and Guardians,
It is always a delight to reflect on highlights from the past week in the Prep School. Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting our Pre-Scholars Breakfast, a celebratory event where we formally awarded the title of Pre-Scholar to students in Years 3-6 who have reached very competitive benchmarks in their academic performance. It was a wonderful occasion as we presented awards and books to our students, recognising their hard work, dedication, and accomplishments. Congratulations to our first group of Pre-Scholars.
Across the Prep School, our students have demonstrated fantastic focus and resilience, approaching their half-term assessments with a calm and determined mindset. This is a testament to their commitment to academic excellence and their willingness to apply their learning. I have been pleased to notice how confidently our students are taking assessments in their stride. Assessments are not something to fear as they give both teachers and students a superb opportunity to reflect on how successful the recent learning has been and how we can adjust our next steps to further develop in the best possible way.
On Tuesday, our Year 5 students embarked on an unforgettable trip to the Rama 9 Museum, where they immersed themselves in a world of science, culture, and wonder. The experience has left them brimming with enthusiasm and curiosity as they reflect on the knowledge gained and the memories created. Learning through activity and practical experimentation is of such value to our students. It brings subjects to life, feeds their interest and stimulates their excitement, all of which helps children aspire to learn and develop further. Their enthusiasm was so powerful that I needed to go and experience the planetarium for myself!
Congratulations are in order for our talented musicians in Years 5&6 who took the bold step to participate in an international trip to Malaysia, collaborating with musicians from across Southeast Asia. This remarkable experience not only showcased their musical talents but also provided them with invaluable opportunities for cultural exchange and artistic growth. It is a brave step but a character-building experience, and I hope every student is proud of pushing their boundaries and embracing new challenges.
Some of the DBS Dancers also shared the results of their hard work and training at the Bangkok Dance Meet, held in the Araya Hall last week. Their energy on stage was infectious, and the students represented DBS superbly. What we see on stage is impressive, but the hours of hard work and focused practice that happen behind the scenes should not go unnoticed. These experiences beyond the classroom significantly contribute to our children's development. Thank you to all parents supporting the Enhanced British Curriculum offerings at DBS, and well done to the students for their engagement and commitment.
Next week, we look forward to celebrating the end of a fantastic Term 2 with our Songkran celebrations. I hope to see you for the morning blessing and for the Joe Louis Theatre performance in the Araya Hall.
Very best wishes,
Mary Bridges
