Head of Prep's Message

Dear DBS Prep Parents and Guardians,

We began our week with celebrations of great success for DBS students in competitions over the weekend. Our Year 8 and former Prep students from Year 9 achieved 2nd place in the Fobisia Battle of the Bands final in Malaysia! Our sports teams were also rocking out, with the U9 girls clinching the victory in the BISA basketball tournament and the U9 boys coming runners up. U11 players also proudly represented the school and demonstrated superb sportsmanship and effort in their respective tournaments. Well done to all!

We opened our doors for the Prep School Open Day this Wednesday, and it was fantastic to see a significant turnout of parents who enthusiastically participated in the morning's events. The day's highlight was the school's guided tours conducted by our DBS students, who showcased the vibrant learning environment and shared their experiences with genuine enthusiasm. The collaboration between parents and the school community was evident, as the event provided a valuable opportunity for connection and discussion. Parents' engagement and active involvement during the Open Day highlighted our shared commitment to fostering a nurturing educational journey for every child at DBS.

This week, we have been talking to the students about the standards of their uniforms and encouraging them to take individual responsibility for this throughout the school day. Maintaining excellent uniform standards is paramount within our school community, as it reflects a sense of pride and identity and fosters a positive and productive learning environment. Students are encouraged to take personal responsibility for checking their uniform standard throughout the school day, recognising that a neat and tidy appearance contributes to a collective atmosphere of respect and professionalism. This responsibility extends beyond personal appearance; it reflects an understanding of the importance of individual contributions to the overall positive atmosphere within our school, reinforcing the idea that each student plays a vital role in maintaining the school's commitment to excellence.

This week, we have shared a number of communications about upcoming events. We hope you will join us next Thursday for our Online Safety Parent Workshop, which marks 'Safer Internet Day'. The students will also be engaging in age-appropriate workshops delivered by Childline. We are also thrilled to invite you to join us in celebrating Chinese New Year on Friday, February 9th, in the DBS courtyard at 7:45 am. The festivities promise to be a joyous occasion filled with cultural richness and community spirit.
Additionally, mark your calendars for International Day, which will mark the end of this half term on February 16th. This day is always an excellent opportunity for our school community to come together, embracing many cultures from around the world. We look forward to your presence and active involvement in these special occasions as we continue celebrating diversity and cultural richness at our school.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Very best wishes,
Mary Bridges
