Deputy Headmaster's Message - Celebrating the Year of the Dragon

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we approach the Chinese New Year of the Dragon, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my warmest wishes to all of our families who celebrate this important festival.

This morning, I had the immense pleasure of being able to watch both the Pre-Prep and the Prep/Senior School celebration performances. The students impressed us all with their performances and confidence on stage, showcasing their skills and effort in learning Mandarin. I would like to extend a special thank you to the Mandarin Faculty for their efforts in organising and coordinating the various events and activities that were held, and to you the parents for supporting your child in their preparations for the event.

Chinese New Year is a time for families to come together, to celebrate new beginnings, and to reflect on the past year. It is a time to be thankful for the blessings we have received, and to look forward to the opportunities that the new year brings. The Year of the Dragon is traditionally seen as a particularly auspicious time, signifying major transformations and new beginnings. For our DBS community, this translates into a renewed commitment to fostering an environment where every student can thrive, challenge themselves, and pursue excellence with courage and determination - guided to do so by our school motto 'Always to greater things'. The dragon’s attributes of bravery and passion are qualities we aim to instil in our students, encouraging them to approach their studies and extracurricular activities with enthusiasm and a can-do attitude.

At DBS, we are committed to fostering a culture of inclusivity and understanding, and we believe that celebrating festivals such as the Chinese New Year is an important part of this. We have been working hard to prepare for this special occasion, and we hope that our students will enjoy the many activities and events that we have planned.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our families for their continued support, and to wish you all a very happy Chinese New Year. May the new year bring you good health, happiness, and prosperity.
