HEAD OF PREP'S MESSAGE
Dear DBS Prep Parents,
At the start of this academic year, we introduced The DBS Code to staff, students and parents. This code refers to 'Developing Better Selves' and clarifies our expectations to build positive behaviour and a harmonious culture for all at school. The response to the code has been very positive and has supported our behaviour systems and practice. I understand that many parents are curious to know how we navigate and nurture this aspect of school life, and we invite you to a Parent Workshop to learn more next week. Mr Orton and I look forward to sharing insights with you on Tuesday at 8 am in the Black Box.
This morning, we gathered in a poignant assembly to commemorate Remembrance Day. Students from both Prep and Senior schools united as teachers, representing their diverse home countries, shared heartfelt reflections on how they honour and express gratitude to those who have bravely served their nations. The occasion concluded with a one-minute silence where we reflected on the sacrifices made by those who dedicated themselves to protecting our freedoms.
After publishing the newsletter last Friday, we received exciting news from our Year 5&6 Science team, who participated in a thrilling competition at Shrewsbury Riverside. Facing off against 13 other teams, the Year 6 team emerged as champions - a testament to their dedication, passion, and scientific prowess. We are so delighted for these students and all others who love Science at DBS. Hard work and passion lead to success, and success inspires others. We can't wait to see what's next for our young scientists and thank the teachers who ignite their curiosity support their hard work.
For many DBS students, there was more action last weekend in the first BISA tournament of the academic year. The students represented the school admirably, looking smart in their new DBS Dragons kit, ready to put everything they've learnt throughout the season into their games. We had some superb results, with a special mention to the U9 girls' football team, who emerged victorious without conceding a goal in 5 matches! The theme of the feedback across all teams was the progress the students have shown from the start of the season to the end. Progress is crucial, and we knew it would be a big step into a competitive conference. We are proud to have created strong foundations upon which we will continue to build a fantastic sporting legacy.
Looking ahead, we have some special events to look forward to. We will learn about and celebrate Diwali in a special Prep assembly on Monday. Then, we will be in full preparation for our week without walls and the highly anticipated residential trips! Please look out for information regarding the upcoming Loy Krathong festival, too. I hope you will enjoy supporting your children in learning about water conservation alongside our celebrations of this vibrant event.
I hope that you enjoy a wonderful weekend.
Best wishes,
Mary Bridges
