Head of Prep's Message
Dear DBS Prep Parents,
There was something in the air in our assembly this morning ... and it was our very own Head of Science, Mr Neville! His Science Week assemblies have become a highlight of the school year as he has taken us on exciting journeys into space and the oceans over the last two years. Today, he went one step further, taking us on a video journey to Khao Yai and into the air before jumping from an aeroplane. Shortly after which, he could be seen flying down from the roof of the Araya Hall and onto the stage! A spectacular introduction to an unforgettable assembly!
The Science Ambassadors from Years 3 -13 led us through a round-up of the fantastic events that have taken place across the curriculum during the 2023 Science Week. In English, the students wrote creatively about the Aurora Borealis; in Maths, data on weather led to work on predictions. Students in Drama created atmospheric soundscapes, and in Art they captured the atmosphere in still-life drawings. The Chamber Choir ended the assembly with a stunning version of Mr. Brightsky. These are just a few examples of how we can all get excited and inspired by the Science all around us. Thank you to Mr Neville and the Science team for a memorable week and the most exciting assembly introduction I have ever seen!
Beyond Science Week, we also enjoyed many other activities and events: two performance time concerts, a record-breaking 18 fixtures in four days and two open classroom events. Seeing the students embracing this range of opportunities and getting the most out of independent school life is wonderful. Every event develops unique skills and seeing the children try new things and push their boundaries is very rewarding and why our staff work so hard to make all of these fantastic things happen.
Next week, I hope that you will join us for our first prep Forum of the academic year. We look forward to welcoming you to the D2 Black Box at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
Best wishes,
Mary Bridges
