Deputy Headmaster's Message - Leadership
Dear Parents and Guardians,
At DBS, our pursuit of excellence is not just an aim we reserve for students, but it is also something we expect for our academic staff, too. Starting this week and continuing into next week, we will be running our annual DBS Leadership Development sessions for our student leaders and school leaders with the sessions being led by two very experienced educational coaches.
At DBS we recognise that by enhancing educational leadership, we are able to create an environment where our students not only achieve academic success but also blossom into individuals who will positively influence the world. Kenneth Leithwood, a renowned researcher in the field of educational leadership, has significantly highlighted that leadership is second only to classroom instruction among all school-related factors contributing to what students learn at school. Leithwood’s extensive research underscores the profound impact that adept leadership has in promoting an educational environment that is both conducive to learning and catalyses student achievement.
As part of these Continued Professional Development (CPD) sessions, our student leaders, middle leaders and senior leaders will participate in workshops and activities that seamlessly intertwine theoretical knowledge with practical application, which will enhance their capability to lead, inspire, and make impactful decisions. The aim of these sessions isn’t just about developing leaders, but it is also about sowing the seeds of ethical, empathetic, and effective leadership within our community. By nurturing our staff and students in embodying these qualities, we are paving the way for a future where our students not only thrive academically but also evolve into conscientious, global citizens and inspiring leaders.
On the theme of leadership development, why don’t you take the time this weekend to have a discussion with your child about leadership. Share stories of leaders who have had an impact on you, discuss the qualities that define true leadership, and explore how we can exhibit leadership in our day-to-day lives.
Thank you for reading and have a safe and enjoyable weekend ahead.
