Head of Prep's message

Dear DBS Prep Parents,

Yesterday, we celebrated a special event in the DBS calendar: Wai Kru Day. This was my second Wai Kru Day, and I feel that I missed out for over 20 years of teaching in the UK, as there is nothing like this there. The Prep School was part of two ceremonies of paying thanks, showing respect to teachers, and committing to hard work for the year ahead. Within the ceremonies, the student hosts shared details of the history and traditions of the event, and we enjoyed the beautiful music associated with this wonderful occasion. I had the privilege of closing one ceremony and letting the students know we are here for them, supporting them on every step of their educational journey. Here's to the year ahead and working together with humility, generosity, courage, integrity and empathy. Thank you to the Thai department for teaching and preparing the students for Wai Kru and giving the teachers and LAs the opportunity to share this wonderful aspect of Thai culture.

The D5 dining hall was the place to be yesterday for the first lunchtime concert of the academic year. It was a superb programme of performances, and it was great to see a number of our Year 7 and 8 students sharing some fantastic music with their peers and teachers. Well done to everyone involved, and I look forward to more music next week in our first Performance Time concerts on Monday and Tuesday.

As we look ahead to next week, we prepare for the launch of Science Week 2023! I hope you had the opportunity to read Mr Neville's letter about the incredible things we will be doing in school to 'Feel the Atmosphere', and I hope you will join in the fun by accepting the family challenge, too!

Parents in Years 3 - 6 are invited to join us for Open Classroom events on Thursday and Friday next week. As the school continues to grow, we are committed to ensuring that we maintain quality opportunities for parents to join us on-site and engage with what is happening in the classroom and beyond. We also hope to see many of you at our wellbeing workshop next Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.

Very best wishes,
Mary Bridges
