Head Of Prep's Message

Dear DBS Prep Parents,

It was great to see many of you this week at our reading workshops for all sections of the Prep School. Reading is like a superpower for your children, equipping them with the incredible ability to explore the world around them and gain a deeper understanding of it. Through the pages of books, your children can explore different cultures, worlds, times and perspectives. If you couldn't attend the workshop, please take the time to read the slides that were shared to help you understand how you can best support your child's reading during their educational journey at DBS.

Congratulations to all students who represented DBS in our first sporting fixtures of the academic year this week. Our U9 and U11 footballers made the trip to Bangkok Patana to play in challenging and competitive matches as part of our new BISA league. Thank you also to parents who could come and support the teams, making the games fantastic community events. For our youngest students in Year 3, their first match was extremely exciting and hopefully a memorable start to their competitive sports journey at DBS. These matches help to acquire and cultivate crucial skills like teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship, emphasising the importance of gracious victory and dignified defeat.

In our assembly today, Mr. Orton had us thinking about one of our five DBS Values: Integrity. With our focus on behaviour and culture this term, building integrity is essential in developing the best version of ourselves. Showing integrity is about becoming self-reflective and accountable. It helps students to become responsible and self-disciplined as individuals. To bring this value to life, Mr. Orton talked about the lost wallet experiment. This involved wallets being left in public and then monitoring the response of the people finding the wallets. The children considered what they would do in that situation. We finished by sharing some ways that students can demonstrate integrity in school, and I hope your child can share some of those with you at home.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your support in aligning with the new uniform code at DBS. I had some great conversations with parents at our recent welcome events, and they were keen to know why we had changed from trainers to black shoes. The reason for this was to ensure that the standards of presentation amongst the students are high. Research has shown that taking pride in your appearance links to pride in work, greater concentration and care taken of the environment. We have been delighted to see improved presentation standards amongst the students this term and feel confident that this is positively impacting the culture and behaviour in school.

I wish you a wonderful weekend.

Warm regards,
Mary Bridges
